Design Engineer

PRIMARY PURPOSE: To design, develop, and document new products from concept through engineering release to production. NATURE OF WORK: Reporting to the Design Engineering Manager, this position exercises discretionary decision making. This is a fast-paced working environment with typical projects going from concept to production in 6 months or less. The position requires a strong ability to work under pressure and excellent time management skills, as the candidate will often have to balance many tasks with competing deadlines. Curtis product lines include cab enclosures for sub-compact tractors, UTV’s and golf cars, as well as tractor attachments, and snow removal equipment such as snow plows and spreaders. The ideal candidate will have an interest in areas such as outdoor power equipment and power sports. Typical materials used in the products include sheet metal, formed tubing, glass, thermoformed plastic, etc. Experience designing with these materials - particularly sheet metal - is desired. ACCOUNTABILITIES: Working closely with project and manufacturing engineers, the design engineer will develop new products from initial concept through prototyping and full release to production. Using the latest release of SolidWorks and Enterprise PDM, the candidate will be responsible for creating 3D models, as well as detail drawings, weldment drawings, assembly drawings, etc. Bill of Materials (BOM), installation instructions, weld fixtures, and all other technical documentation is created by this position. The candidate must be very well organized, as the documentation created in this role will subsequently be utilized by many other functions throughout the business.

Education: BS in Mechanical Engineering. Experience: Minimum 5 years SolidWorks experience creating 3D part models, assemblies, and detail drawings; SolidWorks PDM Professional experience desired. Skills: Experience working with sheet metal, tubing, and the associated design requirements are preferred. Surface modeling skills and FEA experience desired.
