Pharma AI Engineer

Insight Global is seeking an AI Engineer to join a large pharmaceutical client in Tarrytown, NY (3 days onsite, 2 days remote). This individual will join the Solutions Engineering team supporting Research IT initiatives and serve as a bridge between foundational AI platforms and the developers, scientists, and technical stakeholders who rely on them.

The AI Engineer will partner with cross-functional teams to understand research and business challenges, identify opportunities for AI enablement, and develop scalable AI-powered solutions that accelerate research efforts. This role requires a strong software engineering foundation, hands-on experience with modern AI technologies, and the ability to translate complex requirements into production-ready solutions.

Responsibilities include designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining production-grade AI applications utilizing machine learning and large language model (LLM) technologies. The engineer will build solutions involving retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), prompt engineering, model evaluation, and optimization strategies while developing primarily in Python. They will support the full AI software development lifecycle, including solution design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.

This individual will work closely with developers, research teams, and IT stakeholders to advance foundational AI capabilities that can be leveraged across multiple teams and use cases. They will also evaluate emerging AI technologies, recommend innovative approaches, and collaborate with research stakeholders to understand scientific workflows and translate needs into scalable technical solutions. Pay is around 60-75/hr.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Life Sciences, or related field

-Background within pharma, lifesciences or biotechnology, ideally within research

-3-6 years of professional software engineering, machine learning engineering, or AI engineering experience.

-Experience deploying and supporting at least one AI or machine learning solution in a production environment.

-Strong proficiency in Python and modern software engineering practices.

-Hands-on experience with AI/ML frameworks and tools such as:

PyTorch or TensorFlow

Hugging Face

Scikit-learn

Pandas

-Experience building applications powered by large language models (LLMs), including:

Prompt engineering

Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)

Model evaluation

Cost and latency optimization

-Understanding of cloud-based AI development environments and modern AI application architectures.

-Experience working directly with technical stakeholders to define and implement AI solutions.
