Job description
This position is for a Programmer 6 supporting the Michigan Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) Project Development and Maintenance programs. The role involves full-stack Java and React development within an agile environment, collaborating closely with project managers, application owners, and UI/UX teams to build and maintain complex, responsive software systems. The developer will work on-site two days a week as part of a hybrid schedule and must be available for in-person interviews and immediate onsite work from day one. Responsibilities:
- Develop, test, and deploy code in a complex Java and React environment.
- Participate in agile development processes and team activities.
- Work closely with UI/UX teams to create modern, responsive user interfaces using React.
- Maintain and enhance existing applications within the MDOT Project Development and Maintenance programs.
- Communicate effectively within the team and demonstrate self-direction and commitment to project goals.
Requirements
- 7 years programming complex systems using current Java and development tools such as Eclipse/JBoss Developer Studio.
- 4 years programming experience with Java 8.
- 5 years development experience with the Spring Framework.
- 5 years experience with JPA/Hibernate.
- 5 years experience working in an agile development environment.
- 4 years programming experience with Oracle 12C or Oracle 19C.
- 4 years development experience using React.js for responsive UI development (required or desired based on business need).
- 4 years programming experience in the JBoss Enterprise environment.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Frontend development experience focused on WCAG1 accessibility standards or higher.
- 4 years experience with JUnit and Tiles.
- 4 years experience with reporting tools such as Jasper Reports.
Special Considerations:
- Candidate must be willing to relocate at their own expense if not local.

- Hybrid work schedule with mandatory onsite days on Tuesdays and Wednesdays; no remote-only option.

Scheduling:
- 40 hours per week.
