Job description

The Release of Information Specialist is a key member of the BHS Connect operations team and is responsible for processing medical record requests through established workflows across multiple healthcare facilities and technology platforms. This role requires a strong understanding of HIPAA/HITECH compliance, the ability to navigate a variety of EHR systems, and the discipline to work successfully in a remote environment while maintaining productivity and quality standards.

What You’ll Do

  • Process medical record requests accurately and efficiently using defined workflows, company systems, and client-specific procedures.
  • Review requests for completeness, validity, authorization, and compliance with HIPAA/HITECH and applicable release of information requirements.
  • Retrieve, validate, and release records from multiple electronic health record systems and document management platforms.
  • Maintain high productivity while meeting quality, turnaround time, and client service expectations.
  • Identify and escalate exceptions, discrepancies, or complex requests when appropriate.
  • Communicate professionally with internal team members, operations leaders, and client contacts as needed.
  • Adapt quickly to different facility workflows, priorities, and technology platforms.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by following best practices and helping maintain consistent, compliant processes.
  • Represent BHS Connect with professionalism, responsiveness, and a strong customer-service mindset in all interactions.

Requirements

Are you an experienced Release of Information (ROI) professional who thrives in a fast-paced, technology-driven remote environment? Do you take pride in processing medical record requests quickly, accurately, and compliantly while navigating multiple systems with confidence?, Please note: This role requires prior remote ROI experience, the ability to learn a number of new EHR systems, a strong technical ability with computers & systems, and the ability to work successfully and independently from a home office.

This role is ideal for someone who already understands the demands of ROI work, is comfortable working independently from a dedicated home office, and can consistently produce high-quality work across multiple healthcare clients and electronic health record systems.

  • Can work independently with minimal supervision from a home office
  • Learn new systems and workflows quickly
  • Are comfortable switching between multiple EHRs and client environments
  • Balance speed and accuracy without sacrificing quality
  • Stay organized, focused, and dependable in a production-based remote setting
  • Take compliance, confidentiality, and customer service seriously, * Minimum of 3 years of experience remotely fulfilling medical record release of information requests in a healthcare, HIM, ROI, or related environment
  • Strong working knowledge of HIPAA, HITECH, authorization requirements, privacy practices, and medical record release standards
  • Hands-on experience with multiple Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems - and able to learn others quickly
  • Strong computer and systems proficiency, including the ability to quickly learn new software, platforms, and client-specific applications
  • Ability to manage work across multiple healthcare facilities, workflows, and priorities
  • High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality and compliance
  • Strong time management, organization, and follow-through
  • Ability to work effectively and productively in a remote/home-office environment
  • Professional, dependable, and self-motivated work style
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
