Job description
The Data Center Technician II supports the installation, configuration, testing, and maintenance of fiber optic and low-voltage cabling infrastructure in data center and commercial construction environments. This role performs fiber and copper cable termination, Fluke and OTDR testing, equipment rack and stack, panel build-outs, pathway installation, and infrastructure installation according to blueprints and project specifications. The technician is expected to troubleshoot fiber systems, maintain organized cable pathways, follow established safety procedures, and communicate professionally with colleagues and management. Candidates must have at least 2 years of data center technician experience and 2 years of fiber experience., * Perform cable infrastructure and fiber rough-in installations.
- Dress, route, label, and manage copper and fiber cabling.
- Terminate copper and fiber optic cables, including Cat cabling.
- Install and configure single-mode and multi-mode fiber and connectors, including ST, LC, SC, and SC-APC.
- Perform Fluke and OTDR testing to verify cable and fiber performance.
- Troubleshoot fiber optic cabling and connectivity issues.
- Rack and stack servers and other customer equipment.
- Perform server rack build-outs, panel build-outs, and rack elevation work.
- Install fiber trays, ladder racks, power trays, cabinets, pathways, and related infrastructure.
- Receive project materials and assemble required hardware.
- Perform Outside Plant (OSP) installations, including routing fiber into data center facilities.
- Read and interpret blueprints, installation drawings, and project specifications.
- Maintain professional written and verbal communication with colleagues and management.
- Follow applicable safety procedures, including proper PPE use, jobsite housekeeping, and OSHA guidelines.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Data Center Technician experience.
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on fiber optic experience.
- Low-voltage or commercial construction experience required.
- Experience with panel build-outs, Cat cable termination, and pathway installation.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Active OSHA 10 certification preferred.
- Knowledge of single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic systems.
- Experience with Fluke and OTDR testing and fiber troubleshooting.
- Ability to read and follow blueprints and infrastructure installation drawings.
- Ability to work safely on ladders and scissor lifts and in confined spaces.
- Ability to remain on your feet for the duration of the shift.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move materials or equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to use basic hand tools, including a multi-bit screwdriver, tape measure, snips, needle-nose pliers, channel-lock pliers, punch-down tool, and flashlight.
