Fire Technology Manager

Under the direction of the Fire & Emergency Medical Services Director, the Fire Technology Manager will coordinate logistical matters and provide direct supervision over scheduled Fire Technology Programs; monitor and enforce academic policies and regulations through application of appropriate disciplinary procedures., Assure that the Fire Technology and Fire Academy programs regulations and policies are adhered to and applied correctly by program staff members.Coordinate and monitor the day-to-day operations of the Fire Academy, including instructional activities conducted at both on-campus and off-site training locations.Ensure compliance with the standards, policies, and procedures of the Office of the State Fire Marshal, California State Fire Training, and applicable District policies.Assist the Director, Fire & Emergency Medical Services with the development of the instructional class schedule for Fire Technology programs.Provide logistical and operational support for all Academy instructional activities, including classroom, skills, and off-site training.Monitor student conduct and enforce Academy policies, academic standards, and California State Fire Training requirements through the application of established disciplinary procedures.Develop outreach programs to provide information regarding requirements of the Fire Technology and Fire Academy Programs. Evaluate applications for Fire Technology Program, including and advising and notifying students of admission status to program; Maintain accurate and complete student files for the students enrolled in the Fire Technology Programs. Coordinate written examinations, manipulative skills testing, and scenario-based evaluations; maintain the security and integrity of California State Fire Training testing materials and processes.Coordinate the maintenance, inspection, inventory, and operational readiness of Academy vehicles, equipment, and instructional resources.Participate in the recruitment, selection and evaluation of assigned staff. Coordinate the onboarding and orientation of new Fire Technology instructional staff regarding Academy expectations, instructional responsibilities, operational procedures, and District policies.Collaborate with faculty in reviewing and evaluating curriculum, instructional methods, testing procedures, departmental operations and program effectiveness.Direct and supervise and evaluate assigned academic and classified staff; recommend for employment, direct the assignment of, and direct the evaluation of all assigned student services staff.Provide technical expertise and information to students, staff and administrators regarding student pre-enrollment, selection and registration process for each AcademyAssist in ensuring compliance with legal mandates, collective bargaining agreements, District policies, California State Fire Training requirements, and other applicable regulatory agencies; enforce Academy policies and operational procedures.Develop, implement, and monitor Academy safety plans and Incident Action Plans (IAPs) for all on-campus and off-site training activities and ensure compliance with established safety protocols.Participate in program outreach, recruitment, advisory committee activities, and community events to promote Fire Technology programs and strengthen partnerships with regional fire service agencies.Attend conferences, seminars, professional meetings, California State Fire Training events, and other training opportunities to maintain current knowledge of industry standards, and emerging trends in fire service education.Utilize the District’s integrated software systems and other technology platforms to perform assigned duties, maintain records, prepare reports, and support program operations.Perform other related duties as assigned in support of Fire Technology and Fire Academy programs.

Working Conditions: Environment

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

Fire suppression, prevention, and emergency response principles and techniques.Knowledge of State Fire Training policies and procedures for ARTP instruction.Federal, State and local laws, rules and regulations related to fire training, emergency medical services, and hazardous materials response.NFPA standards, ICS/NIMS protocols, and State Fire Training certification requirements.Effective communication skills, both oral and written.Principles of training and providing work direction.Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures related to State Fire Training (SFT) and the California Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM).Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.Operation of a computer and assigned software, including extensive use of Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Professional and State Fire Training student management systems.Diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
