You’ll be at the heart of a high-impact migration project, helping to modernize critical police data systems and enable next-generation applications for analytics, AI, and Intelligence-Led Policing. The DECOM program is transforming how police data is accessed and leveraged, reducing mainframe dependency and unlocking new capabilities for operational teams. As a Web and API Developer, your work will directly impact the accessibility, security, and intelligence of police applications used across Belgium. You’ll help build the backbone for smarter, faster, and more secure policing-making a tangible difference in public safety and digital innovation. What You’ll Be Doing

• Designing, developing, and evolving robust applications, APIs, and web services as part of the DECOM migration program.
• Conducting technical analysis and architectural design for scalable, high-performance data exchange services and REST APIs.
• Integrating and enriching strategic police solutions such as PoliceSearch and PolLogs with new features for analytics, AI, and Intelligence-Led Policing (ILP).
• Developing application components using PHP and JavaScript, ensuring code quality, maintainability, and security.
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to define technical architecture and deliver interoperable solutions that meet operational needs.
• Implementing authentication mechanisms (OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT) and ensuring security by design across all developments.
• Participating in DevOps and CI/CD processes, leveraging containerization and GitLab for streamlined delivery.
• Contributing to automated testing and continuous improvement of development practices.
• Adapting to evolving requirements and proactively identifying opportunities for innovation and optimization.

Technical Skills

• Confirmed expertise in PHP and JavaScript development
• Strong experience with API and REST web services
• Solid understanding of software architecture and design principles/patterns
• Authentication protocols: OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT-based tokens
• Containerization technologies (e.g., Docker)
• DevOps, MLOps, and GitLab for CI/CD
• Application security and security by design
• SQL, NoSQL, and PostgreSQL databases
• Automated testing (junior level and above)

• Proven problem-solving skills and a quality-oriented approach
• Autonomous, self-taught, and eager to stay ahead of technology trends
• Experience working in agile, innovative environments (Scrum, DevOps, CI/CD)

Language Proficiency

• Fluency in French or Dutch is required
• Passive knowledge of the second language (French or Dutch) is expected
