Nature & Purpose of Position The position is responsible for supporting the social media presence and digital engagement of KSHU by monitoring online conversations, trends, hashtags, and topics relevant to Sam Houston State University, KSHU, its affiliates, and the Huntsville, Texas community. The position works to identify opportunities to increase audience engagement, encourage social media participation, and positively promote KSHU through timely, creative, and relevant content.

The position collaborates with full-time staff and other student employees to develop and implement social media strategies, campaigns, and content that support KSHU’s goals and strengthen its connection with the university and surrounding community. Responsibilities include creating and publishing social media posts, identifying emerging trends and opportunities for content, interacting with audiences, and helping expand KSHU’s visibility across digital platforms.

The position also supports the production of multimedia content, including photography, videography, on-camera appearances, video and photo editing, writing, and scripting. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Photoshop and Premiere Pro, is preferred. The position may require travel to various locations throughout Huntsville, Texas, to capture content and support KSHU events, activities, and community engagement efforts. • Must be currently enrolled as a Sam Houston State University student and maintain good academic standing.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, time management, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with full-time staff and other student employees.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally online, by email, over the phone, and in person.
• Comfortable interacting with the public and engaging with audiences across social media platforms.
• Interest or experience in social media, marketing, communications, broadcasting, journalism, media production, business, or a related field is preferred.
• Familiarity with social media platforms and an understanding of current online trends, hashtags, and digital audiences is preferred.
• Experience creating social media content, including photography, videography, graphic design, writing, or video editing, is a plus.
• Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Photoshop and Premiere Pro, is preferred.
• Comfortable appearing on camera and representing KSHU in a professional manner.
• Willingness and ability to learn new software, online applications, technologies, and digital media platforms.
• Basic knowledge of marketing, audience engagement, social media analytics, or data analytics is a plus, but not required. Training will be provided.
• Ability to research trends and topics, identify relevant content opportunities, and adapt content for different audiences and platforms.
• Must be able to travel to various locations throughout Huntsville, Texas, to capture photos and video, attend events, and gather content. The selected candidate is responsible for providing their own transportation.

• This position requires in-person work at the University Plaza Building (UPZ), located at 1 Financial Plaza in Huntsville, Texas.
• This is a part-time position requiring approximately 20 hours per week. Flexible scheduling is available to accommodate the student’s class schedule. Work schedules may be adjusted each semester based on class schedules.
