Systems Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to serve as a critical Level 3 escalation resource within the IT organization. This position will operate beyond the existing L1/L2 support structure, providing advanced troubleshooting, systems engineering, and infrastructure expertise for complex technical issues. The role combines systems engineering, cloud infrastructure, and DevOps practices, with a strong emphasis on Microsoft Azure and Azure networking. In addition to resolving escalated issues, this individual will contribute to infrastructure improvements, automation initiatives, and broader engineering projects. This is an opportunity for a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems while also helping improve the organization’s overall infrastructure and support capabilities. The position is initially structured as a contract opportunity with the potential to transition into a direct-hire role as headcount becomes available. Key Responsibilities

• Serve as a Level 3 escalation point for complex infrastructure, systems, and cloud-related issues.
• Troubleshoot and resolve advanced technical problems that cannot be addressed by L1/L2 support teams.
• Provide expertise across Azure infrastructure and networking, including connectivity, virtual networks, security, and related services.
• Support day-to-day infrastructure operations while contributing to larger technology and engineering initiatives.
• Design, implement, and maintain infrastructure using Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices.
• Identify opportunities to automate repetitive infrastructure and operational processes.
• Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts and other automation solutions where appropriate.
• Partner with internal technology teams and external service providers to investigate and resolve escalated issues.
• Assist with infrastructure projects, system improvements, migrations, and technology implementations.
• Help document technical solutions, troubleshooting procedures, and escalation processes.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions rather than temporary fixes.
• Contribute to the development and improvement of internal L3 support capabilities and processes.

• 5+ years of experience in systems engineering, infrastructure engineering, or a related IT discipline.
• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, particularly Azure networking.
• Experience supporting L3/Level 3 escalations and complex infrastructure issues.
• Hands-on experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
• Strong understanding of enterprise systems, infrastructure, networking, and cloud technologies.
• Ability to balance operational support responsibilities with longer-term engineering and project work.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of complex technical issues.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience administering Microsoft 365 environments.
• Previous experience working for or alongside a Managed Service Provider (MSP).
• Experience developing or improving technical escalation and support processes.
• PowerShell scripting and automation experience.
• Experience with infrastructure automation, configuration management, or DevOps practices.
• Practical programming or scripting experience applied to infrastructure and IT operations.
• Experience working with external vendors or managed service partners.

Estimated Min Rate: $52.50 Estimated Max Rate: $75.00
