Managing Engineer (C#/ASP.NET)

The Managing Engineer (C#/ASP.NET) leads a team of software engineers while actively participating in the design, development, testing, and support of enterprise applications built with C#, ASP.NET, SQL Server, and modern web technologies. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for balancing people leadership, technical leadership, and individual technical contributions to support strategic technology initiatives for Allstate’s Individual Health business.

The Managing Engineer partners closely with Product Managers, Architects, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement. In addition to managing and developing engineers, this role is expected to contribute code, participate in technical design decisions, perform code reviews, and help resolve complex technical challenges.

• Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise applications using C#, ASP.NET, SQL Server, and related technologies.
• Contribute production-ready code and actively participate in feature development and system enhancements.
• Review code and provide technical guidance to engineering team members.
• Participate in iteration planning, backlog refinement, and Agile ceremonies.
• Partner with Product Managers and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Lead technical design discussions and architectural decision-making.
• Ensure the delivery of scalable, secure, and maintainable software solutions.
• Establish and maintain continuous integration and continuous delivery practices.
• Support production applications, troubleshoot issues, and lead root cause analysis activities.
• Collaborate with Architecture, Security, Infrastructure, and Data teams to align solutions with enterprise standards.
• Promote engineering best practices, test automation, code quality, and continuous improvement.
• Monitor delivery commitments, operational metrics, and team performance.

• 5 years or more of experience developing enterprise applications using ASP.NET and C#. (Or equivalent)
• 1 year or more of experience leading or managing software engineers. (Or equivalent)
• Experience actively designing, developing, and supporting production software applications.
• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and complex T-SQL development.
• Experience with front-end technologies such as Vue.js, React, or Angular.
• Strong understanding of JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and responsive web design.
• Experience with Git, automated testing, and continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Experience working within Agile development environments.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, stakeholder management, and leadership skills., * Experience supporting Sales, Healthcare, Insurance, or Financial Services applications.
• Experience with Oracle databases and enterprise data repository integrations.
• Experience leading cloud-based application initiatives.
• Knowledge of DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, and modern software delivery practices.
• Experience driving application modernization and engineering transformation initiatives.
• Demonstrated success building and developing high-performing engineering teams.

Success Profile

The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineering leader who enjoys both leading people and building software. This individual effectively balances team leadership responsibilities with active involvement in design, coding, code reviews, technical problem-solving, and delivery execution while developing a strong engineering culture and delivering business-critical solutions.

Experience

• 5 or more years of experience (Preferred), Agile Software Development, ASP.NET, ASP.NET C#, Continuous Delivery, C Sharp (Programming Language), Design, DevOps, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Database, REST API Development, Software Development, Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Software Solutions, Team Leadership, When working from home, you must have a dedicated, private workspace free from distractions, along with appropriate desk and seating. Compensation offered for this role is 100,000.00 - 170,500.00 annually and is based on experience and qualifications.
