Senior Power BI Developer

Coherent is seeking a Senior Power BI Developer to join our Digital Manufacturing Engineering team in Glasgow. This is a key role supporting the site’s growing reporting, analytics and data visualisation requirements as part of our ongoing digital transformation journey.

As the primary local Power BI specialist, you will work closely with stakeholders across Manufacturing, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain and other business functions to develop reporting solutions that enable faster, data-driven decision making. You will be responsible for designing and maintaining Power BI dashboards, datasets and reporting tools that help improve efficiency, reduce manual processes and deliver actionable business insights.

This role offers the opportunity to make a direct impact on operational performance while collaborating with both local and global teams to ensure reporting aligns with corporate data standards and best practices.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Design, develop and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards that support manufacturing, operational, quality, materials and business performance metrics.
• Partner with stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and translate business needs into insightful analytical solutions.
• Develop and maintain data models, semantic layers, DAX measures and Power Query transformations to support robust and scalable reporting.
• Create intuitive, user-friendly dashboards that drive adoption and enable effective decision making across the business.
• Analyse production, inventory, quality, yield, cycle time, planning and efficiency data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
• Improve existing reporting solutions through optimisation, simplification and performance tuning.
• Work with data from ERP, MES, PLM, databases, spreadsheets and other operational systems.
• Collaborate with corporate data teams and system owners to ensure solutions utilise governed and approved data sources.
• Manage Power BI workspaces, datasets, refresh schedules, security settings and report deployments in line with established standards.
• Support data governance activities including documentation, version control, access management and dataset certification.
• Investigate and resolve reporting, data quality and dashboard performance issues.
• Provide training, guidance and ongoing support to business users to increase reporting adoption and self-service analytics capabilities.
• Contribute to digital improvement projects focused on operational efficiency, process automation and continuous improvement.

• Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering,Manufacturing, Operations or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
• Experience designing, developing and supporting Power BI reporting solutions within a business environment.
• Strong expertise in Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service.
• Proven experience developing data models, DAX measures, calculated tables and calculated columns.
• Experience using Power Query (M) to transform, cleanse and prepare data.
• Ability to gather requirements from stakeholders and translate business needs into practical reporting solutions.
• Strong understanding of dashboard design, user experience principles and data visualisation best practices.
• Experience working with multiple data sources and understanding business data in context.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality solutions within agreed timescales.
• Self-motivated and comfortable working independently while collaborating across a wider cross-functional team.

Preferred Experience

• Experience within a manufacturing, engineering, operations or supply chain environment.
• Experience reporting on production, quality, inventory, yield, planning, cycle time or operational efficiency metrics.
• Advanced knowledge of DAX, Power Query, semantic modelling, star-schema design and Power BI performance optimisation.
• Experience writing SQL queries and working with relational databases.
• Familiarity with ERP, MES, PLM and other manufacturing business systems.
• Experience with Power BI governance, workspace administration, deployment pipelines and row-level security.
• Exposure to Microsoft Fabric, Analysis Services, Azure data services or modern cloud-based data platforms.
• Experience supporting self-service analytics and delivering end-user training.
