Job description

  • Responsible for following established best practices for the development, engineering, design, integration, and updating of control design packages to meet or exceed industry standards, practices, project requirements, and specifications.
  • Reviews documents from applicable trades for coordination purposes and performs as-built site surveys for documentation of existing control system retrofits.
  • Designs and integrates computer aided controls design packages for operating, controlling, viewing, and commissioning HVAC equipment and controllers for building automation systems.
  • Engineers and designs control systems to meet control project objectives, specifications, and HVAC sequence of operation requirements.
  • Works directly with the Estimator, Project Manager, Programmer, and Graphics Designer to convert project requirements into engineered control drawings and submittals.
  • Performs existing system field evaluations and documents accurate field observations, including as-built drawings.
  • Modifies, updates, and redlines existing control drawings for change orders, O&Ms, owner records, and archiving.
  • Communicates and coordinates with staff and clients in a timely manner regarding project scheduling, project requirements, designs, final layouts, installation, and commissioning of the building automation system.
  • Participates in final controls design reviews with the Project Manager, Programmer, System Specialist, and Installation Team to verify the system meets project requirements.
  • Updates technical knowledge by researching new controls design technologies and software products.
  • Meets or exceeds established control design standards for productivity, quality, and customer service, and supports work process improvements and adoption of new technologies.
  • Able to give and receive constructive criticism regarding project success or failure.
  • Maintains accurate historical controls design records by documenting design developments and revisions in the Standards Controls Library while observing high quality standards.
  • Works with the Operations Manager and project team to support cost-efficient design and installation measures where possible.
  • Other duties, responsibilities, tasking, and special projects as assigned by management or ownership.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) to four (4) years of commercial/industrial HVAC controls or building automation system engineering and design experience.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Industrial Technology may be substituted for up to two years of experience.
  • Experience with computer aided controls and HVAC design.
  • Proficiency with various desktop publishing tools and industry specific system design software.
  • Operating knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office Software.
  • Work proficiency with computers and hand-held devices such as smart phones, tablets, etc.
  • Good working knowledge of controls and HVAC designs and packages for HVAC and Lighting systems monitored and controlled by building automation systems from Unitary Systems to Central Plants.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints, specifications, and controls drawings.
  • Good working knowledge of mechanical code.
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license with no major traffic violations, suspensions, or DUI’s in previous 5 years.
  • No current or pending Workman Compensation Claims.
  • Must successfully complete background check, drug screen, physical conditions of employment job screen, and team interview as condition of employment.
  • Self-starter with attention to detail.
  • Neat appearance accompanied with good listening and communication skills in order to communicate clearly with customers, fellow technicians, support staff, and supervisory personnel.
  • Working knowledge of personal protective equipment and safety practices.
  • Ability to work in diverse conditions including but not limited to mechanical equipment rooms with exposure to noisy operating equipment, exposure to extreme weather conditions on rooftops, outside of buildings, crawlspaces, attics, and other types of confined spaces.
  • Perform physical work that requires the regular use of fingers, hands, walking, stooping, and kneeling.
  • Regularly lift or move up to 10lbs and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50lbs.
  • Occasionally work from either a step ladder, extension ladder, or man lift with no fear of heights.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrate an on-going willingness to continue education through available company and industry sponsored training.
  • Good work ethic and the desire to advance professionally and personally.
  • Demonstrate good customer service skills, verbal and written communication skills, and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to maintain a positive, willing, and trainable attitude.
  • Ability to get along with and work well with people on all levels.
  • Work some flexible hours on occasion depending on Control System access requirements., * Can you independently read and interpret HVAC/mechanical plans, controls drawings, project specifications, and sequences of operation?

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Required)

Experience:

  • HVAC controls or BAS engineering and design: 2 years (Required)
  • computer aided controls and HVAC design: 2 years (Required)

License/Certification:

  • driver’s license (Required)
