Job description

Our client is one of the most recognised names in professional services and management consultancy, working at the heart of government, shaping the future of Defence, Justice, and wider public sector organisations. This isn’t box-ticking consultancy work. These are complex, high-stakes programmes that make a real difference to how the UK’s most critical institutions operate. You’d be joining a collaborative, high-performing team that works across everything from operating model redesign to financial turnarounds. The team is growing, the pipeline is strong, and the work is varied, no two engagements look the same. To hit the ground running, you’ll need proven experience leading workstreams or small projects in business transformation or operational improvement, ideally from a consulting background or directly within the public sector. You’ll be comfortable managing junior team members, building trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, and structuring a clear narrative that lands with confidence in the room., · Lead workstreams and deliverables end-to-end, ensuring high-quality client-ready outputs.

· Shape project structure and methodology, identifying root causes of client challenges.

· Manage daily client interactions and act as a primary point of contact.

· Lead, coach and develop junior team members through clear direction and feedback.

· Support business development by contributing to bids and identifying sell-on opportunities.

· Advise clients on operating model redesign, change management, and financial improvement.

· Apply critical thinking and domain expertise to develop clear, evidence-based recommendations.

· Navigate complex regulatory environments and support clients through major change programmes.

Requirements

· Proven experience leading workstreams or projects in business transformation or operational improvement.

· Strong understanding of UK public sector challenges, particularly in Defence and Government.

· Experience managing junior team members and driving high-quality team delivery.

· Excellent stakeholder management and ability to build trusted relationships at senior levels.

· Ability to structure compelling narratives and present complex ideas confidently to senior audiences.

· Experience contributing to business development activities such as proposals or account management.

· Strong analytical skills with the ability to diagnose client challenges and apply appropriate frameworks.

· Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly PowerPoint and Excel, for client deliverables.

The client would also like to see some of the below, but this is not essential:

· Deep expertise in operating model design, cost transformation or regulatory change.

· Experience developing Statements of Work or managing project budgets.

· Professional qualification such as CIMA, PMP, Prince2 or Change Management Practitioner.
