Job description

The Windows Server Administrator is responsible for the administration, maintenance, security, reliability, and performance of the organization’s Microsoft Windows Server infrastructure and associated network services. This position ensures server systems are properly configured, monitored, patched, backed up, secured, and documented to support reliable business operations., This position is responsible for maintaining accurate asset records for hardware and software under their authority.

This position will administer and maintain Microsoft Active Directory services, including users, computers, groups, organizational units, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and related authentication and directory services.

This position will administer virtualization infrastructure supporting Windows servers, including the configuration, deployment, monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting of virtual machines and associated resources.

This position will monitor server availability, capacity, performance, event logs, system health, and other operational indicators and will take appropriate corrective action when issues are identified.

This position will manage Windows Server operating system updates, security patches, firmware updates, and other required maintenance in accordance with Information Technology policies, procedures, and approved maintenance schedules.

This position will evaluate, recommend, configure, test, and install network and server hardware, software, upgrades, and replacements.

This position will implement and maintain server security configurations in accordance with organizational cybersecurity requirements, including account security, access controls, system hardening, endpoint protection, vulnerability remediation, and logging requirements.

This position will administer and monitor server backup systems and will perform or assist with restoration and disaster recovery activities as required.

This position will assist in maintaining the availability, integrity, and recoverability of critical systems and data.

This position will maintain accurate documentation of server configurations, network configurations, administrative procedures, system dependencies, service accounts, licensing, and other information necessary to support the environment.

This position will investigate and resolve escalated incidents and problems involving servers and network infrastructure and will document resolutions as appropriate.

This position works with the Director of Information Technology to create, review, and maintain Work Instructions, Reference Documents, diagrams, configuration records, and other documentation covering their areas of responsibility.

This position will follow established change-management, cybersecurity, backup, disaster-recovery, and Information Technology operational procedures.

This position is on call seven days per week, twenty-four hours per day in the event of a situation requiring the presence or intervention of network or server personnel.

This position must be able to lift 20 pounds routinely and 40 pounds occasionally.

Requirements

Associate’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Network Administration, Cybersecurity, or a related technical discipline, plus one of the following qualification paths., Three years of experience in a Systems Administrator, Network Administrator, Windows Server Administrator, or comparable Information Technology position.

Experience should include hands-on administration and troubleshooting of Microsoft Windows Server environments.

Technical Knowledge and Skills

The successful candidate should possess practical knowledge and experience in the following areas:

  • Microsoft Windows Server administration and troubleshooting.
  • Microsoft Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS).
  • Group Policy administration and troubleshooting.
  • DNS and DHCP administration.
  • Windows file and print services, NTFS permissions, and network shares.
  • Microsoft PowerShell for system administration and automation.
  • Server virtualization technologies such as Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Server hardware, storage, RAID, and related infrastructure.
  • TCP/IP networking, VLANs, routing, switching, and common network protocols.
  • Server monitoring, performance analysis, and capacity management.
  • Windows Server patching and vulnerability remediation.
  • Backup, restoration, and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Endpoint protection and server security technologies.
  • Identity and access management principles, including least-privilege access.
  • System logging, auditing, and event analysis.
  • Hardware and software asset management.
  • Technical documentation and change-management practices.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Entra ID is preferred.

Experience administering hybrid Active Directory and Linux environments is preferred.

Experience with enterprise monitoring, endpoint management, vulnerability management, backup, and remote-management platforms is preferred.

Experience working in a regulated or compliance-driven environment is preferred.

Knowledge of information security and IT service management frameworks, including ISO 27001 and ISO 20000-1, is preferred.

Microsoft, CompTIA, or other relevant industry certifications are preferred.
