Job description
- Own embedded Linux and edge system architecture across deployed and next-generation products
- Lead design decisions across performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability
- Develop and maintain embedded Linux systems used in fleet-scale edge devices
- Manage boot processes, system services, and runtime behaviour (systemd)
- Build tooling, automation, and diagnostics using Python and shell scripting
- Support device provisioning, remote monitoring, and field troubleshooting at scale
- Design secure networking configurations including VPNs, routing, and firewalling
- Collaborate with hardware teams on integration of compute platforms, cameras, and peripherals
- Interpret schematics and PCB designs for system-level debugging
- Act as escalation point for complex production and field issues
- Provide technical leadership across embedded and cross-functional engineering teams
Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience with embedded Linux systems, including device bring-up
- Proficiency in Python and shell scripting
- Strong networking knowledge (VPNs, routing, firewalling)
- Experience working in headless Linux environments (SSH, UART, serial consoles)
- Strong understanding of systemd and Linux service management
- Experience with Git-based development workflows
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and PCB diagrams
- Proven ability to work autonomously and provide technical direction, * Ownership of a flagship embedded and edge AI platform used in real-world transport environments

Recruiter’s Note This is a high-ownership embedded leadership role suited to engineers who are happiest close to the hardware. We are looking for someone who has taken Linux-based embedded systems from bring-up through to production deployment and ongoing fleet support.
Ideal backgrounds include embedded Linux, edge computing, video/CCTV systems, or hardware-adjacent engineering environments. Strong preference for candidates who can operate across software and hardware boundaries and are comfortable leading technically while remaining hands-on.
