Job description

Steyning Medical Practice are seeking a highly organised and proactive Compliance & Governance Lead to join our leadership team.

This is a key role within the Practice, responsible for ensuring we operate safely, effectively, and in full compliance with Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards. You will take the lead on governance, regulatory compliance, health & safety, and information governance, helping to drive continuous improvement across the Practice.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong compliance, administration or healthcare background who is looking to take ownership of a varied and impactful role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Regulatory & Clinical Governance

Maintain continuous CQC inspection readiness

Lead on internal audits and ensure actions are completed

Manage compliance systems (TeamNet) and track requirements

Lead the review and updating of all Practice policies

  • HR & Workforce Compliance

Complete all safer recruitment and new starter administration processes (DBS, Right-to-Work, references, onboarding and system setup)

Ensure all documentation is accurate, up to date and audit-ready

Maintain the training matrix and monitor compliance

Track and coordinate annual appraisals

  • Health & Safety & Premises

Coordinate risk assessments (fire, health & safety, Legionella)

Oversee premises compliance and safety checks

Support infection control processes and audits

Ensure all equipment is serviced and compliant

  • Data Protection & Information Governance

Lead on Data Protection and GDPR compliance

Complete and submit the annual Data Security & Protection Toolkit

Undertake and manage Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs)

Promote strong information governance practices across the team

  • Practice Performance

Support the development and monitoring of KPIs

Produce reports and dashboards for leadership

Contribute to continuous improvement across the Practice

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Compliance and Governance Lead may be requested to:

Participate in regular staff training sessions to ensure development of skills and knowledge.

Participate in team meetings as required.

Work safely at all times in accordance with legislation requirements and Practice Policy and Procedures.

Observe and comply with statutory requirements in relation to Confidentiality, Data Protection, Equality and Diversity, Health and Safety, Security.

Provide support with additional tasks as needed to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Numeracy?, We are looking for someone who is:

Highly organised, detail-focused, and able to manage multiple priorities

Confident working independently and taking ownership of compliance areas

Experienced in administration, compliance, or healthcare settings

Comfortable working with systems and data

Knowledge of Systmone, CQC, GDPR, or NHS processes (desirable but not essential)
