Developer/Programmer Analyst 3 - Texas Department of Public Safety (Hybrid, Austin, TX), Join the mission-driven Texas Department of Public Safety as a Developer/Programmer Analyst 3, contributing to high-impact applications serving public safety objectives statewide. This 12-month hybrid contract role is ideal for seasoned professionals seeking hands-on roles in Java development and large-scale application support within a collaborative, Agile environment., Design, develop, and maintain robust Java applications supporting critical agency functions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to sustain and enhance large-scale software systems.
- Write and optimize complex SQL queries for high-volume databases.
- Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to best practices.
- Utilize Atlassian tools, especially JIRA, for tracking development progress and issue management.
- Support transition initiatives from legacy mainframe systems to Java/SQL environments.
- Ensure application reliability and performance on Linux platforms.
- Embrace Agile methodology for iterative development and process improvements.
- Respond to urgent requests, including off-hours or weekend support as needed.
Requirements
15+ years of hands-on Java development experience.
- 10+ years working with SQL databases.
- Minimum 8 years supporting and developing large-scale applications in a team-based setting.
- 5+ years working within Linux environments.
Preferred Skills
- Deep expertise with Atlassian tool suite, especially JIRA.
- 8+ years practicing Agile methodology in software projects.
- Experience in Texas Department of Public Safety or other State of Texas applications.
- Background in transitioning applications from mainframe to modern Java/SQL platforms., Atlassian Tools JIRA Linux
