Requirements

We’re looking for a highly experienced computer repair technician with strong hardware and software troubleshooting skills to join our team.

This is NOT an entry-level or trainee position. We need someone who can hit the ground running, independently diagnose unfamiliar problems, identify the cause, and confidently complete repairs on both Windows PCs AND Apple Macs.

We work on a tremendous variety of computers, both old and new. No two days are quite the same, so you must genuinely enjoy troubleshooting, solving challenging problems, and figuring out why something isn’t working.

Required Technical Skills & Experience:

Hardware Diagnosis & Repair

  • Extensive hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing Windows and Apple desktops, laptops, and all-in-one computers.
  • Ability to accurately diagnose hardware failures, including motherboards, power supplies, storage devices, RAM, graphics cards, and other internal components.
  • Experience replacing motherboards, laptop screens, batteries, keyboards, fans, charging ports, and other internal components.
  • Hard drive and SSD replacements, cloning, data migration, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience assembling, configuring, and troubleshooting custom-built computers.
  • Ability to systematically isolate hardware versus software problems, including intermittent and unusual failures.
  • Confidence disassembling and reassembling complex devices and working with delicate components.

Operating Systems & Software

  • Strong working knowledge of Windows 10/11 AND macOS.
  • Clean installations, upgrades, reinstallations, and repair installations of Windows and macOS.
  • Advanced troubleshooting of boot failures, corrupted operating systems, driver conflicts, performance problems, and unusual software issues.
  • Virus and malware detection and removal.
  • Software installation, configuration, diagnosis, and repair.
  • Data backup, transfer, and recovery troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird, and other email applications.
  • Computer tune-ups, optimization, and preventative maintenance.

Additional Skills That Are a Plus

  • Linux installation and troubleshooting.
  • Windows Server and Active Directory.
  • Networking, Wi-Fi, and connectivity troubleshooting.
  • Advanced data recovery.

The Person We’re Looking For

Technical expertise is essential, but so is the ability to work with people. Our clients trust us with their computers, their data, and often some of their most frustrating technology problems.

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced and independent: Able to diagnose and complete repairs without extensive guidance.
  • An excellent troubleshooter: Analytical, curious, resourceful, and persistent.
  • Detail-oriented: Careful with equipment and client data, thorough, and committed to getting repairs right.
  • A great communicator: Able to explain technical issues in plain English without making clients feel foolish.
  • Patient and personable: Comfortable helping people of all ages and technical abilities.
  • Honest and reliable: Accountable, dependable, and willing to ask questions when appropriate.
  • Organized and professional: Able to document work, manage multiple repairs, and follow established procedures.
  • A positive team player: Someone with a sense of humor, a can-do attitude, and a genuine desire to help others.

Additional Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of substantial hands-on computer repair experience, or demonstrably equivalent expertise.
  • Proven ability to independently diagnose and repair BOTH Windows and Mac computers.
  • Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work on-site in Grass Valley, California.
  • Ability to meet applicable background screening requirements.

No college degree or certifications required. We care far more about what you can actually diagnose, repair, and accomplish with integrity than the credentials on your wall., Your cover letter is especially important to us! Please tell us about your actual technical experience, including:

  • Your years of hands-on computer repair experience.
  • Your experience repairing both Windows and Mac hardware.
  • The most advanced hardware repairs you routinely perform independently.
  • An example of a challenging computer problem you successfully diagnosed and repaired.

Generic cover letters that don’t address your specific repair experience will not be considered.

We’re looking for someone who knows how to diagnose a problem, not just follow instructions for replacing a part.

If you have the technical expertise, troubleshooting ability, and people skills we’re looking for, we’d love to hear from you!

Job Type: Full-time, * This is an advanced, hands-on computer repair position, NOT an entry-level or training opportunity. We require substantial experience independently diagnosing and repairing both Windows and Mac computers, including hardware replacements and complex software troubleshooting.

Experience:

  • hands on computer: 1 year (Required)
  • Windows: 1 year (Required)
  • Mac OS: 1 year (Required)

License/Certification:

  • California Driver License (Required)
