Job description

A forward-thinking secondary school in Worcester is looking to recruit an enthusiastic IT Support Technician to maintain and improve its technology provision. The school relies on dependable digital systems to support teaching, learning, communication and administration, making this an important role within its wider support team.

The successful candidate will work alongside school leadership, teaching staff and administrative colleagues to ensure that technology is accessible, secure and functioning effectively. The school values practical problem-solving, responsive support and a willingness to help colleagues use digital tools confidently.

This position would suit an IT professional who enjoys working in a varied environment and wants to make a direct contribution to the daily experience of pupils and staff. The Role

The IT Support Technician will provide first-line technical assistance across the school, responding to hardware, software, connectivity and user-access issues. The postholder will help ensure that classroom technology, staff computers, printers and other digital equipment remain operational throughout the school day.

Responsibilities will include diagnosing technical problems, resolving routine issues and escalating more complex faults when necessary. The successful candidate will assist with setting up computers and equipment, installing approved software, maintaining devices and preparing technology for new members of staff.

The role will also involve supporting classroom technology, including interactive displays, projectors and audio-visual equipment. The technician may be required to assist staff during lessons or presentations when technical problems arise, helping minimise disruption to teaching and learning.

Maintaining accurate records of IT requests, equipment and completed work will form an important part of the position. The postholder will also support routine maintenance, software updates, user account administration and the implementation of the school’s IT procedures.

Cybersecurity and data protection will be important considerations. The technician will be expected to follow school policies relating to access permissions, confidential information, safe internet use and the handling of digital equipment.

A proactive approach will be encouraged, with the successful candidate identifying recurring technical issues and suggesting practical improvements to the school’s IT provision.

Requirements

Candidates should have previous experience in IT support, technical assistance or a similar role. A good understanding of Windows-based systems, computer hardware, software troubleshooting and basic networking would be advantageous.

Strong communication skills are essential, as the postholder will need to explain technical issues clearly to colleagues with different levels of IT confidence. The successful candidate should be organised, approachable and able to prioritise requests according to urgency.

Experience with school management systems, educational technology or Microsoft 365 would be beneficial. A willingness to learn new systems and maintain professional standards around safeguarding and data security is essential. What the School Offers
