Job description
Every machine they ship runs on a control system they built in house, and the software team owns it. Software engineers there end up on every project, working on new products and on the machines already out in the field. The job is pretty interactive, and there’s a lot of variety in the work.
Pushing back is fine, and they want people who bring solutions and work well across teams. Both the manager you’d report to and the R&D manager above them have an open-door policy. They’re hoping to find someone who’ll stay with them long-term.
What You’ll Actually Do:
- Write the code behind upgrades and new product introductions, which is most of the job.
- Lead the design of complex software subsystems and take them from concept through release.
- You’d likely be the person the service team calls when a machine at a customer site needs troubleshooting.
- Build the verification and test plans, including automated testing, for the software you ship.
- Work with the mechanical, electrical and firmware engineers and the physics team to get your software running inside the full system.
- Review code and help set the coding standards the team works to.
- Mentor the Software Engineer I and II folks with design reviews and technical guidance.
- Document your designs and follow the team’s documented processes, including 8D problem solving.
Requirements
- Experience on control systems for machines is what they want most.
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Advanced C++ and Python.
- You’re comfortable living in Linux.
- Experience with embedded systems and software that runs on hardware.
- Scientific equipment experience is also welcome.
- They’ll go for a software-related degree first, though experience could probably cover it.
- Git and automated testing.
- You follow documented processes and write down the new ones you build.
- Qt, Yocto Linux, CI/CD pipelines, protocols like CAN, SPI and Modbus, or a background in physics or quantum technologies are all a plus.
Benefits & conditions
- Compensation: $100,000 to $125,000 plus a performance-based bonus
- Benefits:
