Job description

Rum River Consultants is a 30+ person professional services firm that handles building inspections, plan reviews, and code compliance for local governments across Minnesota. We run a fully cloud-based environment on Google Workspace with company-owned iPads and laptops in the field.

This is our first dedicated IT role. You’ll own the environment end-to-end - from day-to-day support to shaping the long-term IT stack. Alongside IT responsibilities, you’ll become our in-house expert on Baseline, the Govtech SaaS platform our team uses daily for permits, plan reviews, and inspections. We work directly with the Baseline product team, and you’ll have a real seat at that table.

The role starts with stabilizing operations and grows into meaningful ownership of platforms and infrastructure. Ramp-up support from experienced IT advisors and the Baseline team is provided; the goal is independent operation within six months.

What You’ll Do

IT Support & Administration

  • Own the IT support queue: triage, resolve, and document issues
  • Provide on-site and remote support for desktops, laptops, printers, and mobile devices
  • Handle system setups, software installations, and hardware deployment
  • Onboard and offboard employees - accounts, devices, and access - completely and on schedule
  • Administer Google Workspace: users, groups, shared drives, security settings, and MFA
  • Conduct periodic access audits and maintain role-based access controls
  • Support cybersecurity hygiene: password manager rollout, MFA adoption, phishing awareness
  • Maintain the asset inventory and keep the How-To documentation library current
  • Coordinate with vendors (internet, phone, backup) when issues exceed internal scope
  • Evaluate tools and vendors; bring forward recommendations for stack improvements
  • Provide education to team members on Google Workspace, Baseline, and other technology through effective communication in a manner that can be understood by non-technical people
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned

Baseline Platform Operations

  • Build and maintain RRC’s Baseline instance: permit types, workflows, fees, user roles, and custom fields
  • Update configurations as codes, regulations, and internal processes change
  • Manage the template library - permit forms, inspection reports, plan review documents - with consistent naming and versioning
  • Partner with permit technicians, inspectors and plan reviewers to identify and resolve platform friction
  • Document configuration decisions so changes are traceable

Requirements

Do you have experience in Windows?, * 2+ years in IT support, helpdesk, or systems administration

  • Hands-on Google Workspace administration (users, groups, drives, MFA)
  • Comfortable supporting both Apple (iPad, Mac) and Windows devices
  • Basic networking troubleshooting: Wi-Fi, DNS, printers, connectivity
  • Strong written communication for documentation and end-user support
  • Comfortable owning decisions about tools and vendors with appropriate buy-in
  • Follow through on assigned tasks, work independently, and complete work on time

Preferred

  • Experience configuring or administering a SaaS platform (CRM, ITSM, permitting software, or similar)
  • Familiarity with local government processes: permitting, code enforcement, or plan review
  • Experience with template management or document standardization
  • Process-improvement mindset, * IT support: 1 year (Required)

Language:

  • English (Required)
