Classification Technician

Classification Technicians are tasked with day to day functions of identifying and tracking the status of inmates who may be Veterans, foreign born, inmates with medical or mental health concerns, gang members, inmates eligible for worker status, inmates with holds from other agencies/states and the Department of Corrections, juvenile inmates, and inmates meeting the Jessica Lundsford Act or Anti Murder Act. Completes forms and reports and other routine office duties. Conduct inmate orientation, review inmate criminal histories and relevant classification considerations which may change throughout incarceration. Performs related work as required., EMERGENCY RESPONSE/RECOVERY ACTIVITIES: All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an emergency. During an emergency, employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens VETERANS’ PREFERENCE: Under Section 295.07, F.S., Chapter SSA-7, Pasco County BCC provides to Veterans, that preference in appointment will be given to preference-eligible applicants.

Do you have a valid Driver’s License license?, Do you have experience in Office experience?, Do you have a High school diploma or GED?, * Knowledge of Department and Agency policies.

• Knowledge of State Criminal Alien Assistance Program.
• Knowledge of Parole, Interstate Compacts, Fugitive from Justice, and Probation Procedures.
• Knowledge of Prison Rape Elimination Act.
• Ability to organize, track, and maintain informational data and materials.
• Ability to work under emotional/physical stress due to inmate explicit language.
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
• Ability to operate a computer using various software systems in both entry and retrieval of criminal background information.
• Ability to evaluate and analyze data.
• Ability to interact positively and effectively with staff at all levels.

Minimum Requirements

PHYSICAL SKILLS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication. Standard office setting but may require interviewing inmates within the jail/housing locations. Primarily a sedentary position requiring up to seven hours per day sitting.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or equivalent and three (3) years of experience using a computer and performing routine office duties OR an Associate degree from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of experience.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Unescorted CJIS clearance as authorized by FDLE is required.
