Software Engineer/Data Analyst

• Hands-on development of systems combining information from various sources to help meet the strategic needs of the business.
• Work with IT and business managers to understand the business issues and build systems to provide key information.
• Attention to detail to verify accuracy of systems, cross-validate findings, and continually improve efficiency, reliability, usefulness, and completeness.
• Support other IT and business initiatives as required.

• Ability to write and modify programs (ideally php, perl, javascript, react) containing complex SQL statements
• SQL skills, including sub-selects, joins, aggregation, normalization principles, and indexing strategies. (experience with mariadb / mysql and window functions is a plus)
• Understanding of, and interest in, the business (profit analyses, sales, pricing, inventory, distribution, CRM systems) and the math involved.
• Ability to understand the data interdependencies across diverse information systems and how to translate diverse data into database tables to facilitate analyses.
• Ability to write programs in a clear, efficient manner.
• Ability to read programs written by other programmers and make modifications.
• Ability to find innovative ways to overcome speed issues to make data queries efficient and dynamic even when combining large quantities of data.
• Ability to communicate effectively with others in IT as well as with business managers.
• Hands on knowledge of Unix/Linux is a plus
• Ability and openness to learn old and new programming languages as needed.
• Oriented to making information and functionality available and providing systems meeting the business needs vs. purely technology-focused.
• Openness to learning from others and adopting new approaches.

Education/Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or Computer Science or equivalent
• 4+ years in a position combining hands-on SQL, Programming, and business analyses
