Job description

As an IT Security Specialist, you will support a wide range of cybersecurity functions for a large-scale public sector organization, helping to protect agency systems and applications, ensure secure software practices, and strengthen the overall security posture across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments. You will play a key role in identifying and mitigating risk, managing vulnerabilities, supporting security operations, and reporting on security metrics to leadership., * Conduct and support enterprise risk assessments across applications, infrastructure, endpoints, and cloud systems; recommend and track mitigation strategies

  • Perform regular vulnerability scans using tools such as Rapid7; analyze findings and prioritize remediation based on risk impact
  • Coordinate patching and remediation with IT and infrastructure teams, validate fixes, and perform re-scans as needed
  • Support endpoint vulnerability analysis leveraging tools such as CrowdStrike and related EDR platforms
  • Monitor network and system activity for suspicious behavior and unauthorized access; investigate alerts and incidents and perform root cause analysis
  • Support log monitoring and integration efforts within SIEM environments and assist with detection tuning
  • Advise on security controls including firewalls, IDS/IPS, EDR, antivirus, encryption, and access controls; support endpoint hardening and baseline validation
  • Support cyber compliance and governance, including POAM tracking, remediation validation, security documentation, and audit support
  • Maintain risk registers and dashboards; develop reporting and visualizations to track vulnerability trends and closure rates
  • Prepare and present executive-level reports on risk assessments, vulnerability metrics, incident trends, compliance status, and remediation progress
  • Mentor junior security staff and promote security awareness and best practices across the organization

Requirements

Do you have experience in Vulnerability management?, * Working knowledge of Rapid7 or similar vulnerability management platforms

  • Working knowledge of CrowdStrike or similar EDR tools
  • Knowledge of networking concepts (firewalls, routing, protocols) and security protocols and encryption standards
  • Familiarity with security frameworks and core information security domains
  • Experience with risk assessment methodologies and remediation tracking
  • Understanding of cloud security principles and hybrid environments
  • Experience supporting security operations, monitoring, and incident investigation (SIEM experience a plus)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including executive-level reporting
  • Ability to mentor and guide team members and collaborate across infrastructure, application, and cloud teams
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Benefits & conditions

New York, NY 10038 Hybrid work $30 - $40 an hour - Contract, * Hourly rate (competitive, commensurate with experience)
