Job description

Job Summary: The Technical Support Specialist maintains and supports the district’s end-user technology, including all workstations, laptops, and peripheral equipment. Installs, maintains, and supports district-approved software. Provides support for basic network troubleshooting, maintenance, and recovery., * Provides on-site and remote support for hardware, software and associated peripherals troubleshooting, maintenance, installation, and upgrades.

  • Provides basic operating system installation and troubleshooting.
  • Assists in the creation and testing of standard images for ail workstations.
  • lnstalls new technology and relocates existing technology as required.
  • Executes periodic technical “clean up” tasks as needed.
  • Sets up and troubleshoots computer connections to the district network, internet, e-mail, other district applications and network servers.
  • Assists with the maintenance, installation and troubleshooting of the district’s network infrastructure, local and wide-area, wired and wireless network components as well as network-defined peripherals.
  • Responds, in a timely manner, to assigned requests in the district’s problem reporting system.
  • May provide ad-hoc user training in response to problem resolution.
  • Manages the movement of equipment offsite to outside vendors for repair.
  • With the network administrator, troubleshoots researches and resolves virus and spyware issues.
  • Provides recommendations concerning appropriate configurations of desktop technology.
  • Performs routine maintenance on desktops, operating systems, and software.
  • Proactively recommends modifications or upgrades to minimize or avoid failures or down-time.
  • Manages researches and evaluates hardware/software as needed. May serve as subject-matter expert for technology related to specific projects assigned by district IT Coordinator.
  • Recommends procedures and/or services that may be beneficial to improve productivity and/or conserve financial resources.
  • Works professionally with support vendors to open and resolve technical issues that are beyond in-district personnel skill.
  • Implements security procedures, software, and “policies” to keep district technology and data secure from internal and external attacks.
  • Provides technical support and expertise to district personnel. Serves as a resource person, able to respond to questions about technology (hardware and software).
  • Functions as backup for the network administrator as needed.
  • Pursues personal goals to improve future performance. Participates in a variety of activities to keep current with advances in technology.
  • Participates in decisions concerning hardware and software acquisitions.
  • Works with district consultants and other technology vendors as needed.
  • Assists with inventory management of district technology.
  • With the IT Coordinator manages receipt of new equipment and software, including the parts depot.
  • Facilitates communication regarding the use of technology.
  • Promotes the ethical use of technology.
  • Works cooperatively to support a successful team effort.
  • Takes initiative to solve problems independently but knows when to call for assistance.
  • Other duties as assigned by the IT Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Operating Systems, Servers (Exchange, SharePoint, SQL) and Networking (Active Directory).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook,Word, Teams, OneNote).
  • Able to perform basic network troubleshooting.
  • Able to follow directions, work independently and show initiative within the guidelines established by the IT Coordinator.
  • Must possess strong customer service and communication skills, including powerful listening and problem-solving skills., * High School Diploma required.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a help desk or technical support role.
  • Experience in a school setting preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have own transportation.

Language Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with Students, Staff, and the public. The ability to communicate complex messages and problems simply and effectively.

Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to maintain confidential information, be prompt and reliable. Must be able to work independently, and proactively handle problems that may arise.
