Born just north of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, my family moved to Waianae, Hawaii just after I completed seventh grade. I moved to San Francisco, California when I turned 21, spent four years near Washington, DC, a little over six years in New York City, the next 11 years in Hohenecken, Germany, and since July of 2023 in Oroville, California.
My web career began in 1998 with a confluence of happenstance and necessity: Just hired to manage a small hotel in San Francisco, I asked about their website and was told that a friend was working on it, but was taking longer than expected. So I bought a book (Elizabeth Castro's HTML5), dove in, and never looked back.
The book is still on my shelf, but doesn’t get used much anymore. I quickly stretched to CSS and JS, then shortly into ASP and MS SQL Server, before discovering WordPress, which got me into PHP and MySQL.
I now specialize in web performance. Everything from tightening your TTFB to helping get your LCP onscreen faster to stabilizing your CLS and helping your users get a faster INP.
When not noodling with code, I can usually be found hiking, biking, gardening, traveling, reading and/or just hanging-out and enjoying life with my wife, friends and family.
