Climate-Friendly Energy
We aim to power the event with renewable energy, and to keep stages, lighting, and IT equipment on energy-efficient technologies such as LED systems wherever we can.
Hosting The Event Responsibly
A note on how we're working to host WeAreDevelopers World Congress responsibly — for San José, for the people who travel in, and for the editions still to come.
Sustainability sits inside how we plan WeAreDevelopers World Congress, not next to it. We aim to keep the environmental footprint of the event as small as a gathering this size reasonably can be, while leaving San José a little better than we found it.
The notes below are an honest snapshot of where we are: some of it is already standard practice for us, and some of it we are still working toward. We will keep updating this page as the picture sharpens.
We aim to power the event with renewable energy, and to keep stages, lighting, and IT equipment on energy-efficient technologies such as LED systems wherever we can.
We encourage attendees to use public transport, walking, and shared transport where possible — downtown San José is compact and walkable, with light rail and Caltrain into the venue area. We aim to offset the unavoidable flight emissions for the event and to keep on-site logistics moving on electric vehicles where possible.
We aim to source food and drinks from regional providers, lean toward seasonal menus, and choose sustainable options for staples like coffee and tea. Portion sizes are planned carefully so we can minimize food waste, and we work with partners to redistribute or donate surplus food.
We aim to rent, reuse, or store event materials and equipment between editions rather than buying new each year, and we ask suppliers to avoid single-use packaging in transport wherever a reusable option exists.
The venue is set up to be accessible across all areas, with clear signage and accessible facilities. We are committed to equal opportunity and inclusion in how we program the event, who we put on stage, and who we welcome through the door.
We aim to leave something behind in the host city — coding workshops for students and youth groups during the event, and a preference for local service providers and suppliers so the spend stays in the regional economy.
During the event, we make our sustainability work visible on site — through signage, digital screens highlighting key measures, interactive displays that explain why this matters, and clearly marked recycling points so it is easy to sort waste correctly.
Sustainability is a continuous effort, not a finish line. Each edition we aim to push the standard a little further and report back honestly on what worked.
Help us make WeAreDevelopers World Congress as responsible as we can. Use public transport when you can, minimize the waste you create on site, and share ideas with us for how to do this better next year.
