Alan Torrance

Alan Torrance is a Senior Executive Director of Engineering at JPMorganChase, based in Glasgow for the last 20 years. He leads engineering across Payments - the systems that accept, manage, and move money globally at Amazon and Uber scale, roughly $10 trillion a day. Most of his time now goes on the interesting bit: how humans and AI actually work together to build software. Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, agents, the lot. Not the hype - the practical "what can you do with this on Monday" version. He's a Docker Captain and sits on the OpenUK Financial Advisory Board. Outside the day job he founded Make It Happen, a programme inspiring 5-11 year olds to become digital creators, 100,000 children and counting. He once entered a school app competition with an intentionally terrible stick drawing of a unicorn flying to space, to prove anyone can have a go. The Space Unicorn stuck. Father of three, a recovering vet-turned-chemist-turned-engineer, and a firm believer that people make AI happen.
