James Clancey

James Clancey is a Principal Product Manager at GitHub, where he works on the GitHub Copilot app and helps shape AI-powered software development. A self-taught technologist with more than 18 years of experience, his career spans developer tooling, mobile, VR, and developer relations. At Microsoft, he architected the company’s Mobile SDK and pioneered work on C# Hot Reload, Hot Restart, Comet, and .NET MAUI; at Meta, he worked as a VR software engineer. He has also helped more than 30 companies ship apps across platforms and built native and remote development workflows for the Godot Engine. Today, he focuses on making AI coding agents practical, powerful, and approachable for developers.
