Lead Backend Engineer (m/f/d) at Peter Park System GmbH

Requirements

  • Infrastructure as Code: Experience with Terraform or similar tools for infrastructure automation.
  • High-Throughput Systems: Strong experience in real production projects handling large-scale data flows.
  • Monitoring & Observability: Proficiency in tools like Datadog, Prometheus, and Grafana.
  • Security & Networking: Solid understanding of networking principles, security best practices, and cloud security.
  • Agile & Fast-Paced Environments: Experience in agile teams, working in dynamic, fast-growing tech environments.
  • Excellent Communication: Strong English communication skills (C1+), with the ability to collaborate across teams. German proficiency is not required.

Technologies We Work With:

  • Event-driven backend development in Python and NestJS, following a microservice architecture
  • Frontend monorepo with Turbo, pnpm, changesets, and storybook, primarily using Vue.js
  • Adoption of TypeScript, NestJS, BullMQ, and Prisma for backends in an opinionated monorepo approach
  • Amazon RDS, DynamoDB, S3
  • Container orchestration with Kubernetes and CI/CD using GitLab
  • Infrastructure provisioning on AWS using Terraform
  • Leveraging the serverless framework on AWS Lambda for high-throughput endpoints

Work Setup:

  • Hours: 40 hours per week (based on trust)
  • Home Office Policy: 3 days in the office / 2 days remote
  • Contract: Permanent contract
  • Location: Munich

Scope of Work

  • Drive the Backend Vision: Define and evolve the architecture of our backend systems, ensuring they are scalable, secure, and aligned with long-term product strategy.
  • Align Engineering with Strategy: Act as a technical counterpart to product and business stakeholders, translating company objectives into backend initiatives with measurable impact.
  • Drive End-to-End Ownership: Take accountability for backend projects from concept to delivery and beyond, setting the standard for reliability and quality across the lifecycle.
  • Champion Engineering Excellence: Set the bar for clean, performant, and maintainable code; foster a culture of high standards and technical curiosity.
  • Lead & Develop Engineers: Guide backend engineers through mentorship, coaching, and clear technical direction to grow the team’s capabilities and autonomy.
  • Architect for Scale & Resilience: Make critical decisions on system design and performance to support a growing platform with increasing complexity and scale.
  • Elevate Operational Maturity: Lead improvements to monitoring, observability, and developer workflows — ensuring backend systems are resilient and teams can ship confidently.
  • Embed Security by Design: Take responsibility for backend security posture, ensuring systems meet best practices and compliance from the ground up.
  • Be a Force for Innovation: Stay ahead of backend trends and emerging technologies; drive continuous improvement in how we build, scale, and operate our systems.
