Job description
We are seeking a highly skilled engineer to join our advanced optical systems team at Nokia (Nuremberg), responsible for the design and development of next-generation optical modem technology operating at the highest data rates and transmission capacities. This role requires deep expertise in digital communication theory, advanced physical layer modeling, and signal processing algorithms design. The successful candidate will work within a collaborative, high-performance environment to drive innovation in coherent optical transmission systems.
- Design and optimize next-generation optical transport systems, focusing on maximizing data rates while minimizing power consumption and system complexity.
- Collaborate closely with ASIC, firmware, and hardware teams to develop, implement, and validate digital signal processing algorithms for coherent modem ASICs.
- Apply advanced communications theory and digital signal processing techniques to solve real-world challenges in high-speed optical transmission.
- Define and contribute to firmware algorithms for DSP ASIC control, channel acquisition, synchronization, and overall system bit error rate (BER) optimization.
- Participate in system-level validation and performance analysis, ensuring robustness and reliability of the modem solution.
Requirements
- Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related discipline with a strong focus on communication systems.
- Minimum of five years of experience in the physical layer of high-speed data communication systems, including research and practical implementation.
- Comprehensive understanding of fiber optic channels, modem impairments, and real-time implementation of optical transmission systems.
- Proven experience with computer simulations of communication systems using MATLAB and C/C++.
- Strong background in digital signal processing, including equalization, phase recovery, and timing synchronization.
- Knowledge of forward error correction (FEC) and coding theory is desirable.
- Laboratory experience with real-time optical systems and high-speed analog test environments is highly valued.
- Familiarity with RTL/Verilog or hardware-oriented algorithm design is an asset.
