Job description
My client is looking for a well-rounded Network, Systems and Support Engineer who can take ownership of their hybrid IT environment. This person will manage Microsoft 365, Windows Server, enterprise networking, and provide senior-level support while guiding junior service desk staff. The ideal candidate is hands-on, proactive, and comfortable working across both cloud and on-premises systems.
Key ResponsibilitiesNetwork Management
- Configure and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless networks
- Monitor and troubleshoot performance issues (latency, packet loss, connectivity)
- Manage VLANs, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP) and QoS
- Maintain network security using firewalls and IDS/IPS tools
- Support network scaling and capacity planning
Systems & Server Administration
- Manage Windows Server (2016-2022) and Terminal Server environments
- Administer Active Directory, Azure AD, O365, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy
- Manage virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix)
- Support backup, disaster recovery and high-availability solutions
Service Desk Leadership
- Handle Tier 2/3 escalations for complex O365, server, and network issues
- Mentor junior support staff and promote strong troubleshooting practices
- Maintain internal knowledge base and improve self-service resources
- Review ticket trends to prevent recurring issues
Security & Compliance
- Apply patches, firmware upgrades, and vulnerability fixes
- Support Zero Trust principles, least-privilege access, and segmentation
Automation & Documentation
- Automate tasks using PowerShell, Python, Bash or Ansible
- Optimise system and network performance
- Maintain clear documentation and network diagrams
Collaboration
- Work with internal teams on infrastructure escalations
- Support data centre moves, cloud projects, and network upgrades
- Provide technical guidance to junior engineers
Requirements
Do you have experience in VMware?, * Degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field
- 3-5 years' experience in systems and network administration
- 2+ years managing Microsoft 365 (Teams/SharePoint)
- 3+ years Windows Server experience in production environments
- Strong network troubleshooting skills (Wireshark, traceroute, etc.)
- PowerShell scripting experience
Technical Skills
- Routing & switching (VLANs, STP, OSPF, basic BGP)
- Firewalls (rules, VPNs, threat prevention)
- Wireless management and RF optimisation
- Network monitoring (SNMP, NetFlow, packet capture)
- SD-WAN basics
- Active Directory & Group Policy
- Hyper-V / RDS / core server services
- DNS/DHCP, certificates, print services
- Security baselines, patching
- Strong troubleshooting and performance analysis skills
