Job description
The Field Engineer (Cabling & Infrastructure) handles the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of structured cabling and network systems across multiple sites. Responsibilities vary by experience-from assisting senior engineers with basic installation tasks to independently managing projects, leading teams, and ensuring technical and quality standards are met., * Site Preparation & Installation:
Prepare and maintain work areas, perform drilling, cutting, trunking, conduit, and containment installations using appropriate tools and machinery.
- Cabling Works:
Run, route, and terminate network and power cables through ceiling trays, conduits, dado trunking, and underfloor systems; ensure labeling, neat routing, and cable management standards are met.
- Device Installation & Configuration:
Mount and install devices such as Access Points (APs), CCTV cameras, network switches, NVRs, and related systems; perform initial setup or configuration as required.
- Termination & Testing:
Crimp RJ45 connectors, punch down euro modules and patch panels, conduct continuity, POE, and certification tests, and resolve any detected cabling issues.
- Fire Stopping & Compliance:
Execute fireproofing procedures, seal penetrations, and ensure all works comply with safety and building regulations.
- Troubleshooting & Maintenance:
Identify and resolve network or device faults using testing tools and diagnostic methods, escalating complex issues as needed.
- Leadership & Team Coordination:
Lead small to large installation teams, allocate tasks, and ensure quality standards and deadlines are achieved. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
- Client & Project Communication:
Coordinate with project managers, clients, and team leads to confirm site readiness, resolve issues, and communicate progress and completion updates.
- Documentation & Asset Management:
Record and update installation details, test results, device data, and cable routes accurately in the Asset Management System. Review and verify data integrity at senior levels.
- Quality Assurance:
Inspect terminations, labeling, and mounting work to ensure neatness, compliance, and consistency with internal standards and client specifications.
- Safety & Professional Conduct:
Follow all HSE guidelines, use PPE properly, and ensure safe and efficient work practices across all project environments.
Job Types: Temporary, Freelance
Pay: £13.00-£20.00 per hour
