Job description
The Systems Engineering Lead will provide technical guidance and oversight for a Systems Engineering team across a variety of projects, supporting products, systems, equipment and facilities. This role may include but is not limited to: providing hands-on coaching, technical oversight and leadership to ensure projects are properly scoped and delivered using sound systems thinking principles, facilitating stakeholder workshops, helping shape pragmatic approaches to complex and real-world infrastructure problems, ensuring the team is delivering clear value through practical execution across the lifecycle of projects., * Provide technical leadership to a team of systems engineers, providing coaching and support where required.
- Apply and promote practical systems thinking in across a variety of projects across the project lifecycle
- Ensure project scoping, requirements capture and problem definition are done effectively and collaboratively
- Act as the primary systems engineering interface with the customer for complex projects
- Review and guide the development of technical documentation including requirement sets, interface definitions, V&V plans and logical architectures.
- Support the integration of systems engineering with wider project engineering, design and assurance processes.
- Provide technical support in the systems engineering approach for new and in-service products and systems, ensuring the right tools and methods are deployed and the key principles and processes are understood and adhered to
- Contribute to continuous improvement of systems engineering methods, tools and templates.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (minimum) in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline; Master's degree or working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status preferred.
- Typically 5+ years of relevant systems engineering experience in a highly regulated industry (e.g., aerospace, nuclear, maritime, infrastructure, oil and gas etc. ).
- Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, including requirements management, system architecture, integration and verification and validation.
- Confident communicator with experience leading meetings and working directly with customers or stakeholders. Ability to engage with senior stakeholders, technical teams and cross-functional groups to align systems engineering practices with business objectives.
- Experience coaching or mentoring junior engineers or team members.
- Experience in applying systems thinking in environments with legacy systems, real-world constraints and evolving problem sets.
- Experience in defining developing, and maturing systems engineering capabilities. Including tools, processes and methodologies.
Desirable Attributes:
- Exposure to systems engineering frameworks such as INCOSE SE Handbook or relevant Defence Standards
- Experience with Systems Modelling tools (E.g. MBSE, SysML etc.) even at a conceptual or high-level
- Experience with IBM DOORs
- Experience aligning systems engineering with BIM or digital twin frameworks
- Familiarity with asset management, maintenance planning or operational systems support
