Job description

HMRC is designing a future metadata platform to support AI-enabled decision-making, transformation reuse, and strategic agility. As we prepare to retender our commercial tooling contract, we are seeking a Technical Architect to lead the design and development of the platform s technical blueprint.

You will evaluate HMRC s internal and external technical landscape, assess existing and emerging products, and define the technical requirements that will shape the next generation of metadata tooling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical design and blueprint for HMRC s future metadata platform.

  • Evaluate existing tooling (e.g. AXON, ABACUS, EDC) and assess external solutions for capability, cost, and risk.

  • Work closely with HMRC s Platform Services function and Chief Technical Design Office to ensure technical alignment across HMRC s architecture, data, and transformation programmes.

  • Work closely with the Data Architect to define integrated data and technical requirements for the commercial retender.

  • Support the platform s scalability, interoperability, and readiness for AI and semantic technologies.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in technical architecture and solution design within complex enterprise environments.

  • Strong understanding of metadata tooling, integration, and platform scalability.

  • Experience evaluating commercial products and contributing to procurement exercises.

  • Ability to produce clear, actionable technical blueprints and align with strategic goals.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with Informatica tooling (AXON, ABACUS, EDC).

  • Knowledge of semantic layer design, knowledge graphs, or AI-enablement.
