Principal PostgreSQL Product Engineer / PostgreSQL Subject Matter Expert

We are seeking a highly skilled PostgreSQL expert to serve as the primary technical authority for our product teams. Your deep knowledge of PostgreSQL-gained through real-world implementation and performance optimization-will be critical in helping shape the next generation of tools for monitoring, managing, and deploying PostgreSQL databases.

In this role, you will bridge the gap between engineering teams and the complex challenges faced by database professionals, ensuring our solutions are robust, efficient, and intuitive., * Product Feature Guidance: Collaborate with product managers to define and prioritize features based on a deep understanding of PostgreSQL application development, deployment, and administration.

• API & Interface Expertise: Serve as the go-to expert for programmatic interactions with PostgreSQL, including system views (e.g., pg_stat_activity, pg_locks), management functions, and monitoring interfaces.
• Technical Design & Validation: Provide architectural and technical leadership during design and development, ensuring that all product interactions with PostgreSQL are optimized for efficiency, safety, and reliability.
• Performance & Scalability Analysis: Advise teams on simulating real-world workloads to validate performance, scalability, and monitoring accuracy across varied database environments.
• Education & Documentation: Develop technical specifications, documentation, and internal knowledge bases to guide engineering teams. Clearly explain PostgreSQL concepts and their relevance to product functionality.
• Customer Advocacy: Act as a liaison between customers and engineering, translating complex technical challenges into actionable improvements and product enhancements.
• Sales Enablement: Support sales teams by providing technical expertise in customer meetings, helping position solutions that address customer pain points and unblock enterprise opportunities.
• Community Alignment: Collaborate closely with PostgreSQL advocates and internal stakeholders to ensure alignment with PostgreSQL's product direction and ecosystem best practices.

Do you have experience in System architecture?, * PostgreSQL Expertise: Minimum 7-10 years of hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, with deep knowledge of database internals, query optimization, and system architecture.

• Infrastructure & Cloud Proficiency: Experience with managed PostgreSQL offerings such as Amazon RDS/Aurora, Google Cloud SQL, or Azure Database for PostgreSQL.
• Tool Development: Proven ability to design and build scripts, applications, or automation tools that interact with or manage PostgreSQL environments.
• Database Management Interfaces: Strong understanding of PostgreSQL system views, built-in functions, extensions, and wire protocol.
• Performance Optimization: Expertise in analyzing, diagnosing, and resolving database performance issues using industry-standard metrics and methodologies.
• Programming & Scripting: Solid experience in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C#, Java, or similar) for backend tool and service development.
• Customer-Focused Approach: Ability to empathize with the needs of developers and database administrators, providing practical and impactful solutions.
• Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
