Job description
We are currently recruiting for a Scientific Officer in Belfast. The successful candidates will be required to start once the vetting paperwork, ANI clearance has been completed., The post holder will support the development of geospatial data and information systems within Conservation Science (CS) Unit and in other branches across the wider division: To catalogue, process, analyse and disseminate natural science spatial data and other environmental data holdings.
Requirements
The nature of the post is specialist and therefore sound knowledge and skills in GIS data managementare essential. It is also expected that the post holder will have demonstrable experience in matters relating to nature conservation. The post holder must have:
- At least 12 months experience in using ESRI ArcProand/or ArcGIS Enterprise, to create, edit, analyse and disseminate environmental spatial datasets.
- Work experience related to nature conservation which may include experience gained during paid or voluntary work, whilst undertaking under/ postgraduate study or during your time with DAERA.
- Excellent knowledge and skills in using Microsoft Office Word, MS Teams, Access and Excel.
Strong knowledge of ESRI apps including:Survey123, Experience Builder, Dashboards and Storymaps. Experience of digitising large datasets.
Proof of 5 GCSEs including English and Maths grade C or above or the equivalent to this.
Excellent IT skills, including use of Microsoft Word and Excel. Excellent communication skills. Proven ability to use own initiative.
Benefits & conditions
Hours of work: The successful candidate will normally be required to work5 days each week, totalling 37 hours (excluding lunch break). On occasions the duties may include some evening and weekend working. DAERA operates a flexi working system
