IT Manager

On-site Linux-based services include database, file sharing, FTP, VoIP, and containerised workloads, used by office staff and factory systems.

• Endpoints are mainly macOS, plus several factory PCs running industrial software.
• The network uses some VLAN segmentation, and a business-grade firewall.
• Cloud services include Linux-based email and VPN servers, administered via SSH., Perform routine administration of Linux servers and services (database, file sharing, VoIP, docker containers) and keep documentation tidy and current.
• Repair and replace computer hardware as necessary.
• Provide practical support to macOS and Windows users; most issues can be resolved methodically without deep prior platform expertise.
• Oversee basic network health, firewall rules, security policy and connectivity; schedule updates and light improvements to keep things reliable.
• Monitor and maintain email servers, VPN, and storage; ensure backups and restoration are working.
• Coordinate software updates for endpoints.
• Liaise with external providers where needed.

Do you have experience in SSH?, Solid Linux administration and SSH skills; comfortable troubleshooting common server and service issues.

• Comfortable supporting macOS and Windows endpoints; willing to learn system nuances as needed.
• Comfortable repairing computer hardware.
• Good grasp of general networking, firewalls, and VPN basics.
• Helpful to have scripting or light programming experience.
• Organised, dependable, and able to work independently in a calm, methodical way.

Working pattern and flexibility

• 1 day per week on-site with flexible hours; remote on-call work for rest of week
