Job description
We are seeking a skilled Temporary Works Engineer with also some structural experience; with 4-7 years of UK design experience to support complex refurbishment, construction-stage and demolition projects across the region. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving practical on-site challenges and producing safe, buildable temporary works designs.
The role is ideal for someone with strong contractor-facing experience and a solid understanding of BS5975, structural behaviour, and construction sequencing.
The Role
- Deliver temporary works designs from initial brief through to issued-for-construction.
- Typical schemes include propping, needling, façade retention, working platforms, crane bases, falsework/formwork, heavy lifting frames, temporary stability and demolition-led schemes.
- Liaise with Temporary Works Coordinators, site teams and contractors to ensure designs are practical, safe and aligned with construction methods.
- Produce calculations, sketches and design statements; work with technicians on drawings and 3D information.
- Apply BS5975 and Eurocodes, ensuring compliance and robust procedural control.
- Attend site to review constraints, collect information and support safe construction.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Tekla?, * 4-7 years' UK experience in temporary works design, structural engineering or a mix of both.
- Strong understanding of BS5975 and Eurocodes.
- Competent in Tedds, STAAD, Robot or similar analysis software, plus confident with hand calculations.
- Able to communicate clearly with site teams and work closely with contractors.
- Practical mindset with strong attention to detail.
- Full right to work in the UK and ability to commute to Leeds.
Desirable:
- Experience with demolition-led temporary works or complex refurbishment projects.
- Progression toward IEng or CEng (ICE/IStructE).
- Familiarity with proprietary systems (Mabey, RMD, Ischebeck) and AutoCAD/Tekla/Revit.
