Job description
You will be responsible for the day-to-day running, maintenance and continuous improvement of our WordPress + WooCommerce online store. This is a hands-on role that combines development, administration and content management - perfect for someone who wants broad experience and real responsibility early in their career.
We are a relatively small, close-knit team, so the role offers plenty of variety. From time to time you may be asked to help with other small projects or tasks (always within reason and related to IT/web/digital) such as basic IT support or assisting with one-off digital initiatives., * Add and update products (images, descriptions, pricing, variations, attributes, categories)
- Write and optimise product descriptions (SEO-friendly copy)
- Perform regular backups, updates (WordPress core, themes, plugins) and security checks
- Troubleshoot and resolve website issues, plugin conflicts and bugs
- Implement small custom features or functionality using PHP, HTML, CSS & JavaScript
- Customise or extend existing plugins when needed (or find suitable alternatives)
- Basic database administration via phpMyAdmin (clean-ups, queries, imports/exports)
- Optimise site speed and performance (image optimisation, caching, basic server-side tweaks)
- Ensure mobile responsiveness and cross-browser compatibility
- Work closely with the marketing/social media team to upload banners, promotional content, landing pages and campaign assets
- Assist with basic on-site SEO (meta titles/descriptions, alt text, schema markup where applicable)
- Test changes in a staging environment before pushing live
- Monitor uptime, error logs and Google Search Console issues
- Occasionally provide basic IT support to the team (e.g. resolving common computer, printer or software issues)
- Other ad-hoc digital/IT-related tasks as they arise
Requirements
Do you have experience in WordPress?, * Degree (or equivalent) in an IT-related subject strongly preferred (e.g. Computer Science, Software Engineering, Web Development, Information Technology)
- Solid understanding of WordPress and WooCommerce (at least 1-2 years of hands-on experience or strong personal/commercial projects)
- Experience and confidence working with the Gutenberg editor and block themes (full-site editing, template parts, block patterns, theme.json etc.)
- Confident with HTML, CSS (including responsive design) and JavaScript
- Working knowledge of PHP (reading and modifying existing code, child themes, hooks/actions/filters)
- Comfortable using the WordPress customiser and block editor
- Basic knowledge of MySQL/phpMyAdmin
- Attention to detail and good written English (for product copy)
Desirable (nice to have)
- Any custom plugin or theme development experience
- Experience creating or modifying block-based themes
- Basic understanding of SEO best practices
- Familiarity with REST API or webhook integrations
- Knowledge of Git version control
- Previous experience providing basic IT/technical support
