Job description

We are embedding agility into our ways of working and building capability for a digital SSE, meeting customer needs in new ways.

The role of a Technical Specialist is to provide operational support for a set of key Applications and Services for the SSEN - Transmission business unit.

Combining aspects of technical support and IT operations, you will ensure ongoing maintenance, manage vulnerabilities, and develop service improvements for our core applications and products. With guidance and support, you will apply your knowledge to diagnose and resolve incidents and problems, and enhance technical solutions to meet business requirements.

You will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and collaborating with product leadership roles to deliver successful business outcomes.

You Will

  • Proactively diagnose and resolve incidents, problems and in particular deal with key security vulnerabilities using off the shelf tools with minimal support, and liaise with third parties as necessary.
  • Manage application configuration, user accounts, licenses and data to ensure we maintain strong security, reliability, sustainability and cost effectiveness.
  • Ensure systems meet business customer requirements for reliability and availability.
  • Partnering with cross-functional stakeholders, including Development, Operations, Quality Assurance and Security to tackle and eliminate vulnerabilities as well as analysing and troubleshooting complex production issues.
  • Working to defined standards and Architectural guardrails, providing support, effort estimation, design and development input into new developments to our core applications.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Python?, * Experience from a similar support or development role in supporting business critical systems in a medium/large organisation.

  • A self-starter with strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to investigate and analyse technical information, and to draw conclusions.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a desire to learn new IT languages and technologies, along with strong collaboration skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Ideally to have experience with Power Analysis / Power Simulation solutions such as PSCAD and PowerFactory or similar
  • Highly desirable to have strong Python coding and CI/CD support/development skillset.
