Job description

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is Britain's national regulator for workplace health and safety. We are dedicated to protecting people and places and helping everyone lead safer and healthier lives.

The Change Team sits within our Operational Services Division and is comprised of three key pillars:

  • Transformation Office ("TO"),

  • Programme & Project Management ("PPM")

  • Business Design & Change ("BD&C").

The pillars contain professional practitioners who are deployed to projects and programmes within HSE and are each led by a Head of Change and supported by a Practice Lead.

This role sits within a team that is responsible for designing and building both physical and logical data models and structures to support the organisation, driving data efficiencies. As an Associate Data & Management Information Analyst you will work alongside a multidisciplinary team of professionals as well as operational and subject matter experts from HSE divisions, supporting key stakeholders across the business to agree data architecture, solutions and strategy. You will support the wider Change team to understand, manipulate and accurately analyse data and present this in a way that makes the complex easy to understand, particularly for non-specialist audiences.

You will receive direction and guidance from senior members of the Change community to support you in developing your Data & Management Information Analysis skills, knowledge, and experience.

Part time working hours are available for this role. We can accept part time applicants who can commit to working a minimum of 30 hours per week., Working alongside a multidisciplinary team of professionals to support the delivery of the various organisational benefits and enhancements with operational and subject matter experts from across HSE divisions. You will be responsible for supporting work across digital and transformation projects by eliciting business and stakeholder requirements, gathering and analysing data and communicating analysis to a wide range of stakeholders. You will support the wider Change team to understand, manipulate and accurately analyse data and present in a way that makes the complex easy to understand, particularly for non-specialist audiences., * Applying tools and techniques for performance monitoring, design analysis and data visualisation (including use of BI tools).

  • Use a range of statistical analysis techniques such as data mining, time series, forecasting and modelling techniques to identify and predict trends in data.
  • Presenting data and conclusions logically and concisely in the most appropriate format and in adherence to overarching functional standards.
  • Support the design and implementation of data models and structures as part of the design of new services and processes across HSE. This includes mapping out relevant data tables and inter-relationships.
  • Where required, work with key stakeholders to agree data needs and structure and build appropriate tools. Translate any impact on workflow and services to relevant teams, championing data quality where appropriate.
  • Liaising and building relationships with key stakeholders to understand their needs and business requirements, helping them understand the relationship between data and operational service, and highlighting risks where appropriate.

Please note, travel to other HSE offices will be required dependant on the needs of the business and projects and this may include overnight stays., We'll assess you against these technical skills during the selection process:

Requirements

Do you have experience in SQL?, * Effective at gathering stakeholder requirements and delivering clear, compelling visualisations and analysis using graphical data presentation (Lead Criterion).

  • Previous demonstrable experience in a similar analysis / data focused role with a solid knowledge and experience in data analysis, modelling, quality assurance, validation, and security.
  • Ability to design and implement data structures across a complex organisation, including conceptual, logical, and physical data modelling; data cleansing and standardization.
  • Technical knowledge of tools such as (but not limited to) database design, Structured Query Language (SQL), Power BI, Excel, Python, R and Data Analysis Expressions (DAX). Strong IT and mathematical skills with the ability to quickly learn new systems and ways of working.
  • Experience in analytical and forecasting techniques, including data mining, statistical analysis, modelling, and trend prediction to support decision-making., * Changing and Improving
