Design Engineer

Job Title: Design Engineer Location: Leicestershire Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 per annum

We are seeking a Design Engineer to join an established engineering and manufacturing company in Leicestershire. This role requires strong 2D and 3D CAD capability, along with experience in estimating for heat exchangers, pressure vessels, or similar fabricated equipment. Hands-on welding or fabrication experience is highly desirable.

Responsibilities:

• Produce 2D and 3D CAD drawings for heat exchangers, vessels, and fabricated assemblies.

• Prepare accurate estimates and costings for bespoke equipment and customer projects.

• Interpret specifications, engineering standards, and customer requirements.

• Liaise with the production, welding, and fabrication teams to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and cost-effective.

• Support the preparation of technical documentation, BOMs, and project proposals.

• Assist with prototype development, testing, and technical problem-solving.

• Provide hands-on support in the workshop where required, using welding or fabrication skills.

Requirements:

• Strong experience with 2D and 3D CAD software.

• Experience estimating or designing heat exchangers, vessels, tanks, or similar engineered products.

• Hands-on welding/fabrication experience (MIG/TIG) highly desirable.

• Good understanding of materials, fabrication processes, and pressure equipment.

• Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail.

• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

• Relevant engineering qualification (HNC, Degree, or equivalent).
