Job description

We are looking for you - a (Senior) Data Architect (m/f/d) in Berlin or Munich. You will work closely with the Head of Data Products and a team of engineers to design, build, and scale our next-generation data platform. This is a hands-on architecture role for someone who loves designing elegant systems and implementing them with modern data technologies.

Data Architecture & Design: You take ownership of our overall data architecture across warehouse, lakehouse, and real-time environments. You design scalable, secure, and maintainable systems that support analytics, reporting, and machine learning use cases. You translate business requirements into clear technical designs and ensure alignment across teams.

Data Infrastructure & Orchestration: You work hands-on to build and evolve our data pipelines and infrastructure using Dagster, ClickHouse, and AWS services (e.g., S3, Glue, Lambda, Redshift). You ensure efficient orchestration, governance, and observability across all stages of the data lifecycle.

Data Modelling & Standards: You define and maintain data modelling standards, schemas, and naming conventions to ensure high-quality, consistent, and interoperable data. You champion best practices for data lineage, metadata management, and version control, while still getting your hands dirty writing SQL and Python.

Performance & Scalability: You analyze performance across our systems and lead continuous optimization of queries, schemas, and storage strategies. You help scale our ClickHouse clusters and ensure the architecture can grow in line with business demand.

Collaboration & Enablement: You act as the architectural backbone for our Data Engineering team - setting guardrails, reviewing designs, and enabling others to build reliable, compliant, and cost-efficient data systems. You partner closely with DevOps, Security, and Analytics to ensure data reliability and accessibility.

Requirements

You hold a degree in Computer Science, IT, Mathematics, or a related field and apply strong theoretical foundations in systems design and data architecture to real-world problems.

Technical Expertise: You bring extensive experience in data architecture, database design, and large-scale data processing. You have hands-on experience with ClickHouse (or other analytical databases), Dagster (or similar orchestration frameworks), and AWS cloud infrastructure. Strong command of SQL, Python, and modern data modelling (e.g., dimensional, data vault, or event-driven) is essential.

Hands-On Mindset: You're not just a designer - you build what you design. You take pride in writing production-grade code, testing new tools, and solving performance bottlenecks yourself.

Communication & Leadership: You're able to translate complex architectural topics into clear concepts and guide technical discussions with engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders in both German and English.

Pragmatic & Scalable Thinking: You design for the long term but act fast - always balancing scalability, maintainability, and business impact.
