Job description

As a 3rd Line Technician, you will serve as the primary escalation point for complex technical issues, structured troubleshooting, and major incidents. You will take full ownership of project delivery, including scoping, planning, documentation, implementation, and handover.

This position involves regular onsite attendance, specifically for project-based work such as installations, migrations, Wi-Fi redesigns, network upgrades, and server deployments. You will collaborate closely with Field-Based Account Managers and the Site Survey Team to ensure projects are accurately scoped and delivered smoothly, providing an excellent customer experience. Delegation of tasks to the Networking Team and 1st and 2nd Line Engineers is a key part of ensuring projects and escalations are managed efficiently and professionally.

Given that L A Comms supports a number of schools, familiarity with typical school IT systems-including Smoothwall, MIS platforms, and common filtering or safeguarding tools-is advantageous. A clean Enhanced DBS check (funded by the company) is required for this role., * Act as the senior escalation engineer for advanced issues and major incidents

  • Deliver onsite project work: installations, redesigns, migrations, and rollouts
  • Work in partnership with:
  • Field Account Managers during scoping and technical validation
  • Site Survey Teams for accurate project implementation
  • Networking, 1st Line & 2nd Line teams by delegating work appropriately

Take full ownership of MSP projects, including:

  • Microsoft 365 migrations
  • SharePoint structure, permissions & migrations
  • Azure VM diagnostics, access recovery & NSG analysis
  • Server role transfers (DHCP, DNS, AD, FSMO)
  • Hyper-V troubleshooting (storage, checkpoints, replication)
  • UniFi network and enterprise Wi-Fi deployments
  • Produce high-quality documentation:
  • Scopes of Work
  • Implementation plans
  • Change control procedures
  • Risk assessments
  • Handover packs
  • Lead structured troubleshooting across Windows Server, Azure/Entra, Microsoft 365, Exchange, SharePoint, and networking
  • Confidently diagnose and resolve Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking issues
  • Manage UniFi ecosystems (Cloud Key, UDM/SE, switching, Wi-Fi, Protect

Requirements

Do you have a valid Driving Licence license?, Do you have experience in Microsoft Windows Server?, * Advanced Technical Capability

  • Strong, real-world understanding of Layer 2 vs Layer 3 troubleshooting
  • Solid AD/Entra/Azure knowledge, including replication, NSGs, and diagnostics
  • Confident in deploying and restructuring SharePoint Online
  • Skilled in applying GPOs and securing AD environments

Infrastructure & Virtualisation

  • Experienced in diagnosing and resolving Hyper-V issues
  • Confident migrating DHCP, DNS, AD, and FSMO roles safely
  • Networking & UniFi
  • Strong understanding of Cloud Key vs UDM design considerations
  • Experience deploying Wi-Fi in challenging RF environments
  • Thorough knowledge of VLANs, routing, segmentation, and WAN failover
  • Schools & Education Technologies
  • Awareness of school IT environments
  • Familiarity with Smoothwall, MIS systems, and safeguarding tools
  • Comfortable working in schools and adhering to safeguarding expectations
  • Must pass an Enhanced DBS check
  • Cyber Security
  • Strong understanding of Cyber Essentials / Cyber Essentials Plus
  • Knowledge of ISO 27001 / ITIL (advantageous)
  • Experience with MFA, IAM, and privileged access management
  • Skilled in patch management and compliance
  • Firewall hardening
  • Backup strategy and ransomware resilience
  • Experience supporting Cyber Essentials+ audits is highly advantageous
