Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated individual to join the Oncology Research Department at Birmingham Children's Hospital as a Data Manager. We are looking to appoint a Data Manager to support a clinical study of children with cancer in which clinical and imaging data is collected and entered into a national database.

The study has been running since 2004 and focuses on Magnetic resonance imaging which has allowed us to develop a number of biomarkers which are used for diagnostic, prognostic, treatment monitoring and treatment planning purposes. Birmingham Children's Hospital is the national lead centre of this portfolio of multi-centre research studies previously led by Professor Andrew Peet, now led by Dr John Apps. The post will be supported by a research group based at Birmingham Children's Hospital and University of Birmingham which leads national and international studies in imaging for children., Ensuring that eligible patients are entered into the study & that all clinical data required for the study are completed, validated & returned to study sponsor in an accurate & timely fashion, promoting high quality research, both within the Trust, Nationally & Internationally.

Responsibility for data collection using local and National databases. Ensure all data relating to patients enrolled in clinical trials are collected, stored & reported in accordance with legislation e.g. the EU Directive for Good Clinical Practice (GCP) in Clinical Trials (2001/20/EC), the GDPR, & Research Governance practices.

Work as part of the Birmingham Brain Tumour Imaging Group & provide cross cover for other members of the team when necessary & work together to pro-actively improve data management within the group.

Proactively contribute to the group's initiatives & work streams. Ensuring that clinical information on the oncology database is maintained & constantly developed to support the clinical audit of services & outcomes & to assist in departmental research where appropriate.

Requirements

Please note this is not an IT based role. Either knowledge of medical terminology or previous research experience would be advantageous. Experience in clinical research data management is desirable. A sound knowledge of how to handle confidential data according to the applicable regulations is essential.

This post would provide an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual experienced in clinical trials who likes solving puzzles, learning new systems and keeping things running smoothly, as part of a highly successful academic research team.
