Location: Onsite - St. Ives, Cambs, with regular travel to client sites across the UK (some overnight stays required).
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, with flexibility for varied shifts including weekends, days, and nights.

As a 3rd Line Infrastructure Engineer, you'll take ownership of the most complex technical challenges across our clients' environments - from advanced troubleshooting to infrastructure design, automation, and strategic improvement. You'll be a trusted escalation point, a technical leader, and a key contributor to delivering reliable, secure and forward-thinking solutions.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, working autonomously, collaborating across teams, and staying ahead of emerging technologies - including scripting, automation, and agentic AI.

What You'll Be Doing
You'll play a pivotal role in ensuring ILUX delivers robust, modern, and secure infrastructure services that clients can depend on.
- Deliver infrastructure projects, including migrations, server deployments, networking, security, cloud transformation, and modern workplace implementations.
- Lead technical discovery and onboarding, assessing risks, capturing details, and producing clear documentation.
- Design, document, and implement solutions. Ensuring reliability, security, and alignment with best practices.
- Work closely with the Sales team, advising on technical proposals and identifying opportunities to enhance client infrastructures.
- Perform high-level troubleshooting relating to infrastructure, networks, cloud systems, and security platforms.
- Collaborate with third-party suppliers during complex implementations and escalations.
- Ensure accuracy of infrastructure documentation across all clients.
- Research and evaluate emerging technologies, advising on improvements and future adoption.
- Lead onsite technical work, often requiring travel and occasional overnight stays.
- Support colleagues, sharing knowledge and assisting in shaping ILUX's technical standards.
Requirements

What You'll Bring
- Significant experience in the design and delivery of infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Intune, and cloud identity technologies (Entra, SSO, MFA).
- Hands-on experience with virtualisation (Hyper-V, VMware, Citrix), routing and switching, VLANs, VPNs, firewalls (Meraki, Sophos, WatchGuard, Fortinet), and wireless networks.
- Advanced troubleshooting capability, with a logical, structured approach to diagnosing complex technical issues.
- Experience with scripting and automation, ideally PowerShell, and an interest in developing these skills further.
- Interest or experience in agentic AI, automation frameworks, or AI-enhanced monitoring/workflows (desirable but not essential).
- Knowledge of backup and DR technologies such as Cove or Veeam.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, endpoint/managed detection and response solutions, and secure configuration.
- Excellent documentation skills, with a commitment to accuracy and clarity.
- Calm, dependable, and confident, able to operate independently and deliver consistently high standards.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel, including occasional overnight stays.
Desirable:
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate, Identity and Access Administrator Associate, or equivalent.
- AZ-900, MS-900, SC-900 or related certifications
- Experience with macOS, N-Able, or industry-specific applications, * 3rd Line or above: 3 years (required)
