Job description
- Design a solution to support the maintenance of legacy UKHO digital publication systems and the development of a new platform.
- Lead the architectural design work as part of a competitive 2.5-week bid sprint.
- Apply domain expertise across SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea), hydrography, and navigational chart standards.
- Shape the approach for cloud migration of critical legacy systems and contribute to technical planning.
- Work across large, complex codebases and legacy environments to inform target-state architecture.
Requirements
- Strong experience in SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) or related maritime environments.
- Familiarity with hydrography and navigational charts (S-100 preferred; S-57 minimum).
- Working knowledge of a major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Proven experience working with large, complex legacy systems.
- Proficiency in at least one legacy language or database such as Java, C#, .NET 8.0, Oracle, or SQL Server.
- Desirable: Experience with chart compilation tools, GIS platforms, or hydrographic data processing, and knowledge of S-101 (ENC) and other S-100 product specifications.
