Job description
- Develop accessible, responsive, and high-quality WordPress websites.
- Transform design concepts into fully functional sites, following consistent design guidelines.
- Maintain a library of reusable components and blocks for efficient site builds.
- Implement structured content and custom functionality using Advanced Custom Fields (ACF).
- Provide advice to project managers and designers on best practices and technical solutions.
- Suggest plugins, tools, and workflows to enhance the WordPress ecosystem.
- Assist with backend tasks, including custom APIs, integrations, and bespoke features.
- Identify potential risks or opportunities early and communicate them effectively.
- Ensure all sites are secure, backed up, and optimised for speed and performance.
- Engage with clients professionally, providing clear, jargon-free communication.
- Collaborate within a small team, balancing project scope with technical standards.
- Maintain awareness of project budgets and client priorities.
Requirements
- Strong front-end and back-end WordPress development experience.
- Proficient in PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for WordPress.
- Advanced ACF skills, including flexible content, custom fields, and ACF/Gutenberg blocks.
- Able to build reusable blocks, components, templates, and design systems.
- Skilled at turning designs into consistent, high-quality UI (layout, typography, UX).
- Solid understanding of accessibility, responsive design, and performance.
- Experience creating custom functionality, integrations, and working with APIs.
- Familiar with page builders (Beaver Builder, Elementor) within structured workflows.
- Strong communication - able to explain technical decisions clearly.
- Proactive and organised, with good awareness of scope, deadlines, and priorities.
Desirable Experience:
- Experience in the charity or public sector.
- Familiarity with fundraising, CRM, or LMS platforms used by third-sector organisations.
- Experience managing SiteGround or similar hosting platforms.
