Job description

The Principal Safety Engineer - Product Safety shall provide support to the Engineering Delivery Manager in the development, delivery and maintenance of the Mechanical Systems Design Safety Justifications, in support of the Platform Safety Case to ensure Products are safe to own and legal to operate. Working for our large defence client, you will embedded within the Dreadnought Platform Mechanical Department, supporting Mechanical Engineers with their Design Safety Justifications. This is a key part of the wider objective to complete the design to enable Build and Commissioning phases.

Typical duties:

  • Support Mechanical System Owners in the production of their System Design Safety Justifications.
  • Produce, present and articulate clear and logical technical safety arguments.
  • Complete peer reviews, checking, verification and assurance tasks to demonstrate the adequacy and robustness of the Safety Case and supporting documentation.
  • Support Product Safety hazard and risk identification, management and assessment activities.
  • Understand the application of the wider Safety Case, Quality and HSE Management System documentation.
  • Ensure the adequacy of Safety arguments demonstrating satisfaction of Product Safety requirements.
  • Support collaboration and communication between the Product Safety and Mechanical Engineering teams.

Requirements

  • Proven ability of writing safety justifications, safety arguments and supporting complex safety cases.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of design, manufacturing, assembly, commissioning and testing submarines lifecycle phases.
  • Awareness of the challenges posed by the environment that the product will be exposed to.
  • Knowledge of Marine/Mechanical Systems is deemed advantageous
  • MS Office proficient - Word, Excel etc.
  • The ability to analyse complex problems and identify the most critical issues.
  • Ability to interpret technical data and produce clear, logical and robust safety arguments.

Benefits & conditions

Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria (hybrid working, 4 days onsite every 4 weeks) - 6 month duration - Pay rate £65 p/h PAYE basic (£74.45 p/h including holidays) or £87.83 p/h Umbrella
